    Trump has so thoroughly brought Big Journalism to heel that NBC makes a transparently hollow denial that it covered up the Olympic audience's booing of JD Vance. The denial is a pathetic but telling lie. It tells us a lot about the network's disintegrating integrity.

    NBC Hid The Boos For JD Vance. Where’s Trump’s ‘Unfair Editing’ Lawsuit?

    If you watched NBC's prime time broadcast of the Winter Olympics opening ceremony on Friday, you saw Vice President JD Vance in the stands at San Siro Stadium in Milan with his wife, Usha. The commentary team said "JD Vance" and moved on. Pleasant enough. But if you were watching literally any other country's broadcast—or…

      @dangillmor After all the practice NBC got from editing out the smoke from Pam Bondi's crucifix whenever she wore it on camera, I'm sure dealing with just boo-washing the sound was child's play.

            @dangillmor It's a performative lie.

            They don't need anyone to believe it.
            They just need to avoid embarrassing the king, and to deny having had to lie to do so.

            The denial doesn't have to be believable.

            In fact, it serves several purposes of the regime that it is not.

                Neo-liberalism has made the system so fragile.

                Optimality and resilience are at odds, they form a pareto front. And resilience definitely lost the trade-off.

                Perfect feeding grounds for authoritarians.

                The same crowd that broke the system will continue to usurp it.
