    @flq @phf @jef @henry
    Only indirectly.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eating_your_own_dog_food?useskin=vector#Origin_of_the_term
    says it originates in commercials where dog food producers claim that they feed it to their own dogs.

    Indirectly, because canned dog food was invented for disposing of "excess horses" (Wikipedia at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dog_food?useskin=vector#History
    says "no longer needed for the war [WW1]", but I'm pretty sure I read elsewhere that cars replacing carriages was also a big factor)

        @henry There is some appeal to the thought that if AI can really do all the nasty work, we can all go do fun stuff. But apparently capitalism doesn't work that way...

                    @henry lol this makes it sound like horses are like Mr. Horse in Ren & Stimpy and just living like a human because he doesn't have to pull people around anymore. These people are just so, so bad at metaphors.

                                also, he looks at working class people as horses? this is classic, “tell me you are a holding hard to a caste system without telling me you are at the top of a caste system”

                                      For far to many people, the "point of going to school" is to be sorted into the bin where you get guaranteed high income.

                                      Like, none of the actual education matters, it's the sorting, which means grades and things.

                                      I always kind of knew this, but it really hit home when my terrible summer session decision theory class at USC had some masters student do a decision analysis on which luxury car his daddy should buy him when he graduated.
