    I've always fancied a "generational" #Shadowrun campaign that featured the same "runner crew" as it changes and grows over the years and decades - starting in the year 2025, and following the twists and turns of the Shadowrun metaplot.

    But I want to use the same #ttrpg rule system throughout. The various Shadowrun editions are too messy for my tastes. And I do not have the free time to convert it to GURPS.

    So now I am wondering if #CitiesWithoutNumber might do the trick. Has anyone here run a campaign with it?

    @juergen_hubert Do you don't like ANY of the Shadowrun Versions? Because it would be way more easier to stick with one of the original versions than to grab another system and convert it. Personally I like 3rd above all others.

    That beeing said, Cities without number sounds promising but I don't know it to be honest.

      @juergen_hubert Do you don't like ANY of the Shadowrun Versions? Because it would be way more easier to stick with one of the original versions than to grab another system and convert it. Personally I like 3rd above all others.

      I do enjoy some of them, but character creation is so massively complex that you don't want to do that too often.

      Which doesn't fit with a campaign framework where PCs are expected to die or retire frequently.

        @juergen_hubert https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/268457/hack-the-planet-cyberpunk-forged-in-the-dark it would require some game hacking to put magic in, but FitD is literally built around that generational idea. How does a crew change over time, how do the players change over time, etc.

        Not a fan of PbtA rules, but if there are some aspects that could be added to other games, I might take a look.

          @juergen_hubert All the "Without Number" games are more or less compatible because these are using the same basic mechanics, so it should be easy to make the required adjustments (and there are some free / SRD manuals to take a look):

            I do have the books, and have used some of these products for worldbuilding.

            But I wonder about people's practical experiences.

              @juergen_hubert If you're just looking to steal stuff, the specific mechanics I'd look for are how they structure the crew as it's own character, with mechanics, history, contacts, and xp triggers. This makes continuity of game easier, as your players have a shared identity even when the characters or setting changes.
              Also, how the faction game works, with each of the factions having goals that they're working for, and an understanding of the crew's relationship to them.

(Man, learning about the SCRIE event at the table, and having in character arguments about the birth of technomancers sounds AWESOME)

                    @juergen_hubert I don't have any actual play experience, but there is additional content in the paid version of CWN that is clearly intended to help you do Shadowrun.

                    Origin foci that can easily represent elves and trolls and orcs, as well as rules for magic.

                    Again, only read and never run, but the intention is clear.
