    @randahl Reminds me of the time Syrians were fleeing to Iraq, circa 2010-2011

      @bufalo1973 Schengen is not the whole EU. Ireland is not in it. Cyprus is not in it. Non EU countries are in it. Anyway, It’s mostly about travel and not residence. But you can live in any EU member country plus a few others if you are an EU citizen. Which is what I think you meant.

            @randahl

            Given that the AfD now has around 20% of the vote here (and another big party has really problems to keep themselves away from the far right) ... while I understand their reasons, I'd recommend to read up a bit on current German politics first.

            Make no mistake: As far as I am concerned they're welcome. But I'd really see "back to Germany" as a Hail Mary pass, if I were them.

                  @glitzersachen @marcel @randahl He's using the swiss cheese model of security architecture, but to achieve his promised savings, has reduced the layers to one.

                          @randahl Idk if this is the best decision. Since Germany strictly follows USA (and has #AFD in its starting positions for next election). But as we say "In der Not frisst der Teufel Fliegen." (Desperate times call for desperate measures.) Atm it is more save in Germany than in the USA.

                          I wish all the people good luck and success with their papers and safe travels.

                          @Tilai @randahl
                          And Germany's purported protection of Jews primarily occurs in an ardently pro-Israel context these days. But it definitely helps to have moderate Jewish voices push back on the fascists, religious extremists and Israeli lobbyists 🤷‍♀️

                            @me_valentijn @randahl I agree with you, but I would strictly distinguish between Israels politics and Jews that flee a country. These people need our help. Like everyone else whose lives are threatened by #MAGA and #ICE

                              @Tilai The point is that they can get German citizenship relatively easily, and then the EU is open to them ... for now. @randahl

                                @randahl I did it during the first Trump regime. It’s an incredibly ironic thing. But I am here because my grandfather made the choice to leave Germany in time. Options protect us. Reclaiming them is liberating and healing. ❤️‍🩹
