I have a love-hate relationship with Final Fantasy III.

The boss fights are really cool. And the way it expands the world as the story goes on is neat. You think you know what’s up then you realize what you thought you knew was just a small aspect of the greater whole.

But then the difficulty spikes are absolutely brutal. You beat a boss then get KO’d into oblivion by a random nobody? And the only way through this is to grind, grind, grind. Which takes so much time.

And the saves are manual. Don’t you dare do anything important if you don’t save promptly.

But of course, I realize we’re dealing with something that was originally a Famicom title. Back then, you were lucky to have saves at all. Thank God we didn’t have to write down passwords!
