        @ielenia@ck.catwithaclari.net A 5 (“dust protected”) in dust means that the amount of dust accumulated inside the device after being subject to test chamber filled with 50um talcum powder particles was not enough to hamper the device. A 6 means there was no dust (“dust tight”). This is extremely hard to achieve, since at that size of particle it basically means your device has to be practically fully sealed, which is pretty painful.

        So overall a dust of 5 is not bad.

          @ielenia@ck.catwithaclari.net if you’re curious about this, it is defined as a part of IEC-60529, as are the test methods. Though for reasons that have always baffled me, IEC standards cost a pretty penny, so good luck getting a hold of it.
