How the hell d'you even pet a bunny

They're very soft and chill but they just kinda lie there in your hands, I'm used to cats, a cat will purr, it'll move around, it'll contort its spring of a neck to show you where it wants scritched, I'm here fondling these incredibly passive buns and asking this woman HOW DO I KNOW I'M DOING IT RIGHT

@ifixcoinops Angora rabbit breeder here (although not the one you met)!

I guarantee your comment gave her a little chuckle lol.

Bunnies like to be scritched on their foreheads and to have their ears stroked. You'll know they're enjoying it when they hold still and close their eyes.

@Axiom Thanks, you're awesome πŸ™‚ First question I guess is whether there's a dealbreaker before we even get started, I'm getting conflicting information online on whether cats and rabbits can or should coexist in the same space. Second potential dealbreaker is how big of a hutch does the average rabbit need? Also, is it cruel to only have one rabbit?

@ifixcoinops incoming info dump (you walked right into my special interest hehehe)

                  1) Can Rabbits and Cats Co-Exist?

I can't speak to this cuz I don't have cats, but I can say that my buns are entirely unbothered by my large dog. The quickly learn that the worst he's gonna do is give them a lil sniff and now they completely ignore him.

I think it'll mostly depend on the personalities of the animals in question.

But in any case, never allow them together unsupervised.

@Axiom @ifixcoinops We had a dwarf Holland Lop and a super anxious cat, and the cat was actually the nervous one in the relationship. The bunny would sometimes be interested in her (he was also an elder bun, and she was maybe 18 months), and she just always tried to avoid him.

All that is to say, I think bunnies and cats are okay, depending on the cat. If the cat thinks the bunny's a toy, that might go poorly. They can't play the way cats do.
