While investigation and remediation will necessarily be part of any cure, the growing problem of scientific fraud is just one symptom of a chronic illness that continues to progress. Science is commodified. The average research institution today has more in common with an Amazon warehouse than an ivory tower. I think the only way to reduce scientific fraud sustainably is to be clear on why it exists.
