Five years ago, Linux was the OS for server nerds.

Now it’s the OS for gamers.

In a very short time, Valve completely changed everything.

@atomicpoet First time I read about this, I just couldn't wrap my head around it. How does this work? How could the world have changed in such a profound way, and I didn't know? This was last week.

@mattijamsa Valve put in a lot of money developing SteamOS, which is their fork of Arch Linux. They also massively pushed forward Proton.

And as it happens, SteamOS (and Bazzite) now work on other well-known gaming OCs like the Asus ROG Ally and the Legion Go.

Now people are building Steam boxes based on Linux.

@atomicpoet I gave up on playing on Linux a long time ago and resigned to keep a dual-boot Windows for this. Are you saying I'd be able to play eg. Marvel Rivals, Total War: Warhammer III and Talos Principle on Linux hassle-free?

@hp Can’t say you’ll never run into hassles ever, but I’ve played 2 out of 3 of those games on my Steam Deck hassle-free.
