    Translation and Taste

The Hedgehog Review is published three times per year by the Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture. In keeping with the Institute’s own mission and vision, the journal is concerned with issues of contemporary cultural change and its individual and social consequences.

Love this essay on translation and matters of taste. I agree that all translation strikes a delicate balance of literal meaning accuracy versus the feel of the words versus stuff like wordplay that can get lost in literal translation.

(Like the fact that my own favorite translation of Pushkin's famous novel in verse Evgeny Onegin is the Hostetter translation which livens things up with similar jokes in the text to those in the original)
