Notebook and keyboard currently fight for space on my desk and I want them to co-habitate peacefully.

Current non-solution. I get really frustrated with pushing the keyboard out of the way to write in the notebook.

@dried hard same. And I currently have some synths and other music hardware crowding my desk. It's already a win that I now have a dedicated hook for my headphones.

@draco I sometimes wonder whether it would be better with a smaller non-split keyboard, but even then it would mainly be better in terms of swapping keyboard and notebook, and I'd really like to avoid moving them around at all (not to mention the ergonomics and financial hit)

@dried at one point, I had a kneeling setup with my notebook propped up on an easel to the right of me. The point of friction here is your body needs to turn. Also, it's not easy writing on an easel!
If I had time, budget, space, etc to think about this problem again, I'd probably try using a swinging monitor stand for my notebooks, and make it a clamped 30-45 surface for a writing. That would make the task of moving the notebook out of the way a little bit easier.

@dried unfortunately my answer is “not very effectively” lol
I still have to move my computer/riser to the side to use my notebook

@dried The simplest (good) solution I've found is to use a small keyboard, small notebook and wireless trackpad/mouse in this configuration (my right arm usually rests between the keyboard and the notebook and it's easy to switch between them)

@paul interesting! I think I remember this kneeling setup of yours. Yeah, turning is a surprising amount of friction, even just to the left 45° (eg, if I put the notebook in front of where the coffee mug is). I kind of want the notebook directly above the keyboard, which might be more or less doable with the right support... Hmm...

@quesebifurcan oh trackpad in the centre is an interesting solution! Writing on my dominant-hand side definitely feels better. I'm curious about hand strain with the trackpad over long periods, has that ever been an issue for you?

@reillypascal super tidy small setup though! Does the keyboard fit under the riser? That's my first impulse when I see a setup with one

@dried it does! That definitely makes it easier to move.
