spotted on ravelry: the pattern to knit the sock pictured on the Wikipedia article for "sock"
As seen on Wikipedia socks pattern by Amy E-W
From December of 2010 to the time of writing, the key photo on the Wikipedia ‘sock’ page has been a hand knitted sock. If you’ve ever looked at that picture and thought, “I wish I had those socks!”, then this is the pattern for you! This is a cuff down traveling stitch cable sock pattern, with a standard heel flap construction and charted design. The pattern includes instructions for four sizes, both with and without calf shaping. The sock shown on Wikipedia is the medium size with no calf shaping.

@molly0xfff I love Ravelry!

@gordoooo_z @molly0xfff okay! Ill consider crochet. 🧶
@aleciabatson @molly0xfff Woah, I've never felt such power to mold minds! I'll try not to let it consume me

In all seriousness though, I hope you enjoy it! It's a pleasant diversion. If you're anything like me and prefer improvising over following a recipe, then you'll appreciate how intuitive it is once you get the basics down to just play it by ear and make what you see in your head.

Nice sock. Interesting cables. Kudos to the person who deconstructed the pattern.@EugestShirley @molly0xfff Maybe the Wikipedia sock was knitted from the pattern? Perhaps the pattern has been published elsewhere besides Ravelry?
"The sock shown on Wikipedia is the medium size with no calf shaping."

@EugestShirley @molly0xfff I would even go so far as to suspect that the Wikipedia person who uploaded the sock photo, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Loggie, and the Amy E-W of Ravelry, are the same person. Their writing has a certain vibe.
