I'm doing better, health-wise. Right now I'm sticking to the Bland diet (the one you stick to for healing the gut). I'm really really bored with it, but it's working. I can get through the day without taking a pill for pain now. There still is some pain, but it's minimal.

I see the doctor on Monday and I imagine he'll approve adding more foods back into my diet.

I took it upon myself to try a rootbeer (for Science!) and it seems to have gone fine.

Otherwise it's been a lot of mashed potatoes and grilled chicken. Which, if I have to be limited, that's not too bad. But I have this habit of eating a can of Rotel with chips (as if the Rotel is salsa), and I really miss that.

(Rotel is one of those regional things, so if you don't know what it is, it's diced tomatoes and green chilies. It's a practically perfect food in terms of taste. It just lacks salt, and that's what the chips are for. It also goes really well mixed into cottage cheese)

@AngelaPreston ah Rotel. It must be regional. I mentioned just eating it with chips and people were shocked. So also saltines.

@thatdnaguy I don't know anyone else (except for my son) who eats it the way I do. I'm not even sure why I like it so much, but there it is. I am definitely doing my part (or was, until recently) keeping the Rotel organization in business.

Most people use Rotel with melted cheese (which, locally, is usually Velveeta) to make a spicy cheese dip. If you also mix taco meat into it, you have some macho nachos going on.

@AngelaPreston we have Rotel here in Vegas too, at the Smiths. It's in all my tacos. I get the hatch version.

@AngelaPreston I wonder what that would be like if you blended smooth the cottage cheese and heated it up?

@Linnefaulk I don't know! I may try it sometime. I don't mind the texture of the cottage cheese with the chunky tomatoes and chilies, and I don't mind it cold. But if someone has texture issues or really prefers it warm, that might be really good.

@AngelaPreston Very glad to hear that you are doing better on the bland. Had a friend once who had serious ulcers that he got rid of with the bland. Oatmeal, potatoes, rice, pasta… took a month or two, but for him it worked. Also, splitting up from his wife whom we all suspected was poisoning him.

@Catawu Well THAT went somewhere I was not expecting!

I'm pretty sure that's not happening here, but I guess I'll be more vigilant!

@AngelaPreston We noticed he always started feeling sick after eating his lunch. We started taking turns dumping his lunch and bringing an extra one of ours from home. No problems. Eat something she made… problems.
