@instantiatethis i'm glad, it's a horrible one to work out by yourself 😄

@KatyElphinstone Yeah this, there are so many phrases which neurotypicals use as a standard shut-down when frustrated ("you just think you're always right" type stuff) which if a true observation, would require immediately putting major work into it, re-evaluating all my past interactions, etc. I've had so many instances where someone I generally trust tells me something like this, and then I only work out many weeks or months later that actually, I didn't need to spend weeks wondering how I think I'm always right despite being full of doubt, nor did I need to conclude that since I'm so incapable of seeing my own self-righteousness then I need to simply defer to others until I work out what's going on, or whatever other weird panic reaction it caused...

Which fits in pretty well with your thesis that the issue is less "lack of flexibility" (I'm totally willing to accept that I have bad traits I'm not only completely unconscious of, but might be in spite of me constantly trying to do the opposite) and more "lack of clarity" (oh, you just meant that you're frustrated? Why express it that way then?)

@KatyElphinstone One must also account for the fact that many people don't see why they should be super accurate in their feedback. They may say "you're being so black and white" and literally just mean "this is making it difficult for me to do it the way I wanted to do it".

I've learned over the years that going too far in my thought process based on what was literally said isn't wise, since someone may give what seems like a very specific and actionable criticism, and then what they actually meant was just "stop getting in my way generally", which one only realises after putting in extensive work to fix the specific problem they named, and having it turn out to change nothing about their reaction.
