@juergen_hubert Venice was very serious about protecting the secret of their glassmaking, and had draconian punishments for industrial espionage. No wonder Venetian became synonymous with magician.

I bought this book as a result of an Internet Argument where one of the posters claimed that the medieval European guilds were in their own way just as horrible as the large multinational companies of the present #LateStageCapitalism (though on a small...@juergen_hubert@bookrastinating.com @juergen_hubert@mementomori.social and here I thought guilds were also the forerunner of trade unions, their power coming from their members more than from the financiers.

As someone who works for an IT company, I am _so_ glad that the #AI / #LLM bubble is not directly relevant for either us or our customers.@juergen_hubert it's why I have been so unrelenting in calling LLMs "bullshit generators". It tamps down all talk of using AI.
Thankfully my company is very focused on protecting data, so the higher ups are leery about what LLMs slurp up.
