Remember: even police organizations admit that modern American policing practices descended directly from slave patrols in the pre-Civil War South.And yes, queer folks like Renee Good have borne a disproportionate brunt of that same racist heritage and practice--there's very good reason for No Cops At Pride. But we must never forget that this has been the daily reality of Black Americans for centuries, first and foremost.
In short:
Renee Good's murder is exactly why Black activists have been calling on us for decades to abolish American policing as it has existed until this point. They've been living this outrage for generations.
Maybe it's time to listen.
