It's frustrating to me when I can't get friends onto encrypted platforms like Signal in a similar way that it's frustrating when I can't get family to mask while COVID
It's not really just about protecting yourself, it's about protecting your friends and your family.
If a hostile government wants to subpoena your Discord chats, or a hostile hacker makes it into the server they're hosted on, they'll get access to it, including everything your friends said to you on it, and everything you said about your friends on it. Everything you said about their politics, about your politics, every reference you made to their gender identity, their sexual orientation, their race, their immigration status, whatever the hostile agent wants to target.
If they subpoena Signal, they maybe get your phone number and user name. The messages are encrypted.
This isn't just about you. It's about who you care about. Care about encryption like you care about your family and friends' safety, because they're the same thing
