I was lucky in my old neighborhood. It was all of the neighbors who put them up while I did nothing but flick beetles into soapy water. In a few years my yard was good while the neighbors kept putting up Japanese beetle traps.
Hahaha.

Japanese beetles have been demolishing our basil plants, so we bought beetle bags.Ooh. Be careful. I avoided using the bags when I read that as you're trapping and killing many of the beetles, you've just attracted all of them to your yard. They still have a chance to mate and lay eggs in your yard before succumbing to the delights of the bag. Even more beetles will be there next year.
