Can’t you just stick in some code for a progress bar to make it look like something’s happening?

Have mixed feelings on the Scott Adams story. Big privilege asking Trump to intervene with his insurance provider. On the other hand, if I have cancer I’m gonna do whatever I can to get treatment. I mean, yeah, he’s a dick. But cancer sucks.

Nassim Taleb wrote The Black Swan back in ‘07. His thing was the catastrophe we don’t see, rather than all these Very Good Reasons️ for why the markets will crash. Very different animal. Bubbles are predictable. They happen quite regularly apparently. The Dutch Tulip bubble is the one everyone always mentions.

Ok, but what if something is right at the very edge of that radius, and something else just the other side of the radius comes along and gives the first a nudge or a pull over the radius limit? Maybe I’m just talking about a single particle of some kind, not a whole star. Seems like you’re saying that’s the moral equivalent of dividing by zero.

I was reading somewhere an explanation for why the night skies are not totally whited out by the brazillions of galaxies and stars in the universe. Spoiler: it’s cuz some of them are so far away their light hasn’t reached us yet, and some are moving away from us so their light will be mega-redshifted. So if a star or galaxy is far enough away & moving away from us, will it wink out at some point when it zooms beyond the threshold? #cosmology #universe #theoreticalphysics #askingforafriend
