Helpfully, GPS is a receiver only system - with no transmissions there is no risk to using it. Google services on your phone can supplement location determination using a database wifi signals - you might want to turn that off, or turn wifi scanning off.

You can just safely turn that off if you like, I expect. There're no privacy risks of using GPS et al.
