@randomwizard Even if someone did not play D&D as written, I’d separate “used house rules” from “the written rules did not matter.” A list of preferred changes shows that the game was modified, but by itself it does not tell us how those rules were used at every table. The useful takeaway is narrower: house ruling has very old roots, but that does not make RAW irrelevant.

@malin@dice.camp There’s a PF2e conversion floating around that I’ve never bothered to look at because my family would have no interest in playing. But maybe I’ll take a look just for the sake of comparison. After Spelljammer 5e, I kind of enjoy seeing WotC get shown up by random people on the internet.
