Every so often, I wander into a YouTube hole by a group of women who feel the need to "defend men".

I’m so confused. Defend us from what? What do I, personally, need to be defended against?
Also, what is even going on here? Who is this content for?

@atomicpoet from what I’ve seen, there are women who diss on men, and then there are women who defend men against that, an then there are women who know what the Bechdel test is and have a life.

⠠⠵ avuko At some point, all this stuff feels completely detached from reality. But I acknowledge these people vote so…

This is content for men to feel a little validation from women.
My read is that men want that just as much as they want validation from other men, but the behaviors that a big subset of male culture demands to validate other men grosses women out.
I'm imagining the consumers are men who don't like women so much and just want to hear something positive, and men who aren't exactly sure how to make a connection with a woman in today's environment.

eestileib (she/hers) I thought about that. And no doubt, men are some (perhaps most) of the audience. But obviously there’s also clearly a subculture of women that this appeals to. For example, the tradwife set—and there are many women who find this ideology appealing (for example, religious women).
However, my thought is simply this: if men are so fragile that we need defending—then from what? And how does this discussion actually “rescue” us? Presumably, they’re appealing to someone who has the power to do something—who would it be?

Aggrieved men. Dudes who think there was a world where just having a dick meant that women happily and enthusiastically cowtowed to them, and who feel robbed by not being born in whatever era they think that was. Guys who believe their birthright to being right was stripped of them by, I don’t know, DEI or something.
These guys will get caught in any thirst trap that services their ego in any way.

@kichae@wanderingadventure.party Listen, I think you may be underestimating how much patriarchy appeals to some women.
I think you’re not considering that some of these women are, in many ways, sincere.

Chris Trottier Oh, no, I know many of them are sincere. But the content is 100% for the entitled go-nowheres who are upgrading these women’s standard of living.

@kichae@wanderingadventure.party Partially it. If you’re a woman whose worldview is that men are meant to be providers, then men should be upgrading your standard of living. So to speak, that’s the deal.
That’s also the tradwife pitch.
