This is an *actual* conversation I just had with a Nintendo fanboy.

FANBOY: I would never get a PC because Switch has more games.

ME: But actually, PC has a library of 100,000s of games, which is more than Switch.

FANBOY: But I'm not spending all that money on a computer to play games.

ME: But you just spent money on a new laptop.

FANBOY: I'm talking about a computer.

ME: Your laptop is a computer. It runs Windows.

FANBOY: Yeah, but it doesn't run games.

ME: It runs Half-Life and Minecraft just fine.

FANBOY: But those games aren't ones I'm interested in.

ME: Do you only play Nintendo games?

FANBOY: No, I also play Capcom and Sega games.

ME: Your laptop can play Capcom and Sega games.

FANBOY: But I don't want to pirate them.

ME: You can buy them legally on Steam and GOG.

    FANBOY: I don't care. It's not on a Switch.

ME: Why didn't you just say that? You just wasted so much of my time.

@atomicpoet I wonder how money games you have to buy to compensate the cost of a decent PC, considering Nintendo games are what, 80 bucks

@shadowwwind Thing is, any PC is a decent PC if your baseline simply is “play games”.

Now if your baseline is “Borderlands 4 at 4K running at 165fps,” that will be expensive—neither a Switch 2 nor PS5 certainly can handle that either.

Truth be told, I have a very high end PC yet most of my time is spent on my SteamDeck.

I’ve always considered myself a Nintendo fanboy, but hearing about other Nintendo fanboys on the Internet is a continual culture shock. I love my Switch games, but the hardware is weak sauce, and the Switch 2 is unconscionably expensive. I’ve said before that I don’t care about the game prices going up, but I have a hard limit on what I’ll spend on the base hardware, since it doesn’t even include a play experience.

But also, I am continuously playing games on my PCs. Usually old ones. I’m currently replaying Final Fantasy 7. I just finished Ocarina of Time. FF9 is up next once I finish 7. Doom/II and Duke Nukem 3d are constantly revisited. I was planning on playing Baulders Gate I and II before picking up 3. I’ve been meaning to finish Doom 2016 for… well, 10 years now. My Steam collection is overrun, and almost exclusively with games that will run on my little convertible ultrabook.

I don’t think these people like video games. I think these people just like being on a “winning team”, and they chose Team Nintendo when they were “winning”.

            @kichae
I also have lots of Nintendo consoles and games. Hey, I think they're good for what they are.

But the need to "war" with PC is just ridiculous. For 45 years, the average Nintendo fan didn't care. Everyone just acknowledged they were separate markets and that was that.

Suddenly, now that Valve is making PCs that look like consoles, the fanboys are coming for PCs.

And I don't know—I feel like shilling for a corporation that doesn't actually care about you is ridiculous. This goes for Valve fanboys too.
