Multiple people "reported" me for this post showing a screenshot of Donald Trump literally comparing himself to Jesus Christ.

I think you are getting this reaction because it *is* objectively a really gross image, worse it is AI generated.
With no effort they can create endless propaganda and slop. And, even if you are looking at it to be critical you are still looking at it.
I agree we can't ignore this. I'm mystified that more Christians aren't offended and horrified.
This is idolatry.
I'm most offended by the war planes in the sky like angles. Applying a gloss of holy glory to war is sick.
I sometimes think that the only right way to fight propaganda is with better propaganda.
Here are some images that make me feel 'proud of America.'
What are some other images like this?

@atomicpoet * taps the MLK letter from Birmingham jail about the white moderate "who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice" button *
I'm not sure what's worse, the Monroe Doctrine-, Operation WB-supporting Yanks, or the ones that wilfully ignore the horrors that allow for their Treatlerite existence to continue.
@budududuroiu @atomicpoet For fuck's sake, guys. It's not about being "a white moderate", it's about not having horrors (that you can do nothing about) shoved in your eyeballs over and over again every day.
Yeah, we get it, Trump is a narcissist and a fascist and borderline delusional. We knew that already, we knew that a decade ago. This latest post is just like the hundred other posts that he's spewed out. I'm well aware of the horrors, what do you want me to fucking do about it?
You don't get to inflict anxiety on and reopen trauma for people like me who had a narcissistic parent, just because *you* think it's important.

Those of us who know how harmful propaganda and patriotism can be shy away from using such imagery. Because it can be manipulative. But by not defining what we mean by "America" we allow others to rush in and define it for us.
You don't need to think "my country right or wrong" to be proud of your country.
Here is another image that means a lot to me:

@neoluddite @budududuroiu You don’t get to censor nor dictate what is said just because you had a bad parent.
Have trauma? Tough beans. So do the many people put in an ICE facility, which is actually a concentration camp—and I ain’t going to let you forget that.
Filter, block, or de-federate. But you don’t get to decide what I say. Especially since you don’t pay for my instance. -

First off, that report ultimately goes to me—the owner of my instance. There is no higher authority on atomicpoet.org than me. Which is by design.
Supposedly, the issue is that you didn’t “consent” to seeing a post about Trump. But nobody “consents” prior to a post going public. That’s not how social media works. There’s no Fediverse Authority to decide which posts publicly hit the federated timeline.
Even so, I firmly believe there are things that need to be seen—whether people like it or not. And one of them is that Donald Trump literally put up an AI-generated image of himself as Jesus, in a white robe and red cloak, surrounded by worshippers. One of them is praying to him.
If this offends you, good. It should. It offends me too. Everyone should be offended. If you’re religious in any way—Christian or otherwise—you should react with profound distaste. And if you’re an atheist, yeah, you should also be offended. This should be a universally offensive thing.
I therefore refuse to hide that image behind a content warning because, yeah, everyone needs to know it exists.
@atomicpoet It's because, YOU CAN NEVER UNSEE IT!

@futurebird I have lived minutes away from the USA my entire life. Lived in Crown Heights, Brooklyn for a year. Family are Americans.
Talking about Trump never fills me with pleasure because I know Trump is not the USA.
So when I talk about Trump, it’s because I feel something existential about where the world is going. -
@atomicpoet It's because, YOU CAN NEVER UNSEE IT!
Charlse the Glider I hope you never forget it.

Especially since you don’t pay for my instance.@atomicpoet @neoluddite @budududuroiu you pretending that the only possible way people can know this vital information is because of your toot is pretty fucking arrogant. I'd already seen it three times in CW'd posts here, and on two separate news websites, before coming across you.
People don't ask for CWs on posts out of a desire to remain ignorant. They ask so they can *choose* when to engage with the horrors, and when to have time to put them on hold for a bit.
You and your free speech just aren't that important, mate.

@atomicpoet @neoluddite @budududuroiu it's 2026. "The president is a sociopath" is not breaking news.

neoluddite The thing is, you don’t really get to control what other people post to their own website. The control you have here is over who you follow. Expecting others to obey your own personal rules doesn’t really fly, and repporting people for not obeying them is petty censorship.
“I don’t want to see this” is a conversation you get to have with yourself.

Chris Trottier I have some pretty far-out-there hopes for how I’d like to see the fesiverse structured, which will never be realized baased on discussions I’ve had, but which seem so obviously necessary. These hopes revolve around an instance-first framework, focusing on instance-as-community, which includes having the Local feed as the default for most fedi sites.
This is one of the key reasons why. There’s a pretty wild entitlement people seem to have over what rules, social or formal, are expected on fedi, even though it is an informal, opt-in, subscription based network. Ensuring your first point of contact each day is set to the same baseline as you radically changes the expectations, as does viewing your instance as a website and as the primary mediator in your interactions, rather than just a neutral conduit to “Mastodon”.
But, alas, the idea of the content network, rather than the omni-app,seems anathema to people these days.

@jimbob @neoluddite @budududuroiu Stay angry, white Australian man who likely won’t have American troops invading his country and therefore doesn’t want to suffer the discomfort of knowing something awful.
