The idea that if Jews “behave better” (according to whatever criteria are in vogue, it changes over the decades and centuries), they will be spared antisemitic violence has never been true. It’s a myth that allows a subset of antisemites to feel more virtuous by shifting responsibility for violence to the victims. It is built on the idea that we are deserving of violence against us unless proven otherwise. #Antisemitism
