@lislegaard totally. I think I love YT mostly because, as silly as "content creators" can be, they're generally just normal people.

It scratches the same itch for me as blogs...I am endlessly fascinated by just hearing about people's lives, in their own words. I love narrative storytelling too, but it has lost some of its luster for me lately, esp. the Hollywood/streaming-type stuff.

I like nebula, though I often forget it's there. It will depend on whether what they have matches what you're looking for. I like the idea that the folk on there get paid. And that I've contributed to that.

@alisynthesis I'm in a similar boat. There is so much fantastic stuff on youtube, and I really like the fact that video creators have some path to getting paid by being on the platform; but MAN is that an abusive algorithm. And the constant pushing of shorts, it's terrible!

I have nebula, and I enjoy it!

I really hope more creators team up and go the nebula route; I wouldn't mind paying a few 40/yr subscriptions to like, all the high quality wood working channels, or maker channels, or...

I’ve subscribed to Nebula for a year, then let it lapse. There’s some good content on there, but so far they’ve kept it pretty limited/aren’t inviting the creators I’d like to see there. The quality is definitely better than YouTube for what is there.

I’m guessing it is probably more effective to subscribe to the Patreon channels that are most interesting to you. But I haven’t used patreon yet.

@alisynthesis I still watch YT more than I’d like, although as others have said, in the browser with ad blocking or RSS. The interesting thing is, when I try to think as I write this what i’d sorely miss, I can’t think of anything (except for Too Much Music of course, which you should host on peertube anyway

I usually search for music tips/lessons/gear reviews, food recipes and music vids, but now there’s #TIBtv

So I just basically want to stop, not replace it. Not helpful, sorry

That's pretty much how I feel about it, too. I don't exactly want to replace it, and I definitely also want to cut way back on the amount of time I spend on trash videos.

I've got a lot of moving shit to peertube to do, I think. I'm pretty seriously considering MakerTube. Do you have any thoughts or feelings about PeerTube instances?
