@redsad@ohai.social it gets a LOT better by 25. like, a LOT better. also, quitting big tech helps, and strengthening your focus (for me, by reading a lot and doing math) esp in your early 20s helps.
@butchrobot hmmm I'm 42 and that's definitely not the case for me

Hey. Not only do my youngest child make that program, but now her oldest child has made it. Two children, 4 grandchildren, not one neuro-normative in the crowd.
But everyone gets student of the month, and 1st in the article contests, and like that.
It's just that they are light on the 401K paths. -

@redsad Hmm. No ADHD, but anxiety, depression, and perfectionism for sure. But Wellbutrin is helping the procrastination for writing, at least.
Am the oldest daughter (but have an older brother so actually a middle child) and ... my spiritual journey is stalled somewhere.
Though I think technically my GT program was in the 80s, so maybe that's the difference.

@redsad@ohai.social Youngest Daughter and the 2000s, but it very much still applies. Also I'm starting to get to a point where I'm getting better at my perfectionism!

I didn't need to be called out like this

@redsad I was in it in like... 2023? The name was Talented and Gifted instead of the other way around so it might be a different thing, but I remember everybody there being super pretentious and rude! I had a tendency to remember the new stuff enough to get good grades, but really old stuff would be gone. I was called many names, and I remember getting in trouble for quitting without actually quitting because I didn't wanna talk to the teacher
-
@krutonium @redsad good girl for saying so

the high functioning part maybe not so much but the rest...
story time, so I had straight A's pretty much all through school until my junior year, when I tested super well and got into AP classes for English, History and Philosophy... and then failed all three of them

I was smart enough to pass the entrance exams but the classes themselves and the insane amount of reading and homework broke my brain. the English teacher really hated me. at one point she told my mom, "that girl needs therapy." yeah no shit, lady. I had undiagnosed ADHDπ€¨

I'm also autistic, probably (self diagnosed, no interest in getting myself put on a list by RFK Jr)
