    How to block Bluesky from Mastodon:

    1. Go to the profile page of the account Bridgy Fed for Bluesky
    2. Click ⋯
    3. Click "Block Domain" to stop seeing Bluesky accounts
    4. Click "Block" to prevent your own account being bridged to Bluesky

    You may need to copy-paste Bridgy Fed for Bluesky into the search box on your server to make the profile appear.

    If you can't find the account Bridgy Fed for Bluesky, your server is probably already blocking the Bluesky bridge.

    @FediTips Does blocking the domain still work if someone you follow boosts a toot from it?

      This is not about you, it's about the people who might follow your advice. If you are willing to risk their life, you should be willing to risk your own.

      @leeloo @virtuous_sloth @FediTips Sorry, but that's just silly.

      People are here on the fediverse, on a network that is inherently unsafe (as all are). Here, bad actors only need to lay low to grab all the information they want from people, as only when they reveal themselves blocking can happen.

      And they worry with the tiny little probability of a bug sending their data elsewhere?

      Come on. Be real.

      Risk exists right here, right now. People should really be well aware of that.

          @FediTips
          Your account will only be bridged to Bluesky if you *follow* the bridgy account.

          If you have followed it in order to have your account bridged and have now changed your mind, you need to block it. If you have never followed it, blocking it is unnecessary.

                    @loki_bass

                    Bluesky started hosting the Trump regime's ICE, so a lot of people asked how they can stop seeing Bluesky accounts bridged to Mastodon.

                    I did this post as there was so much demand to find out how to do this.

                      No.

                      Instead of being patronising, you could pay attention to Bluesky hosting ICE, and respect people's wishes to have absolutely nothing to do with such a Nazi-welcoming platform.

                        @FediTips Seriously, that doesn't make a lick of sense.

                        You're not blocking Bluesky (you can't, it doesn't communicate with the Fediverse), you're blocking the bridge.
                        What is the purpose apart from virtue signaling?

                        If a Fediverse account is not bridged, no one on the Bluesky side can see it.

                        Bluesky accounts bridged into the Fediverse allow them to be seen on the Fediverse. If you don't want to see a Bluesky account in the Fediverse, don't follow any. As simple as that.

                          People asked me how to do this, I am telling them. That's what my account is for.

                          "What is the purpose apart from virtue signaling?"

                          Show some respect for people's choices instead of using a phrase more associated with the far right.

                          "If you don't want to see a Bluesky account in the Fediverse, don't follow any. As simple as that."

                          No it isn't. If Bluesky accounts are bridged into your server you will see them pop up elsewhere, even if you don't follow them.

                              I had a number of people asking me one or both of these:

                              -How do they stop seeing Bluesky accounts?

                              -How do they stop their account being bridged, they bridged a while ago but forgot about it and didn't know what to do to stop it.

                              As there were many requests about it, I thought I'd do a post that covers both.

                                @FediTips I mean, I'd like to not be patronizing but you're not helping when posting something like this.

                                Blocking the bridge is not blocking Bluesky. It does nothing on the Bluesky side, and all it does on the side of something doing it is preventing them from seeing posts from people on Bluesky who bridged here (i.e. who don't disregard the Fediverse and who want to communicate with it).

                                How does it help or do anything?

                                Are all Bluesky users guilty by association?

                                  @David

                                  "all it does on the side of something doing it is preventing them from seeing posts from people on Bluesky who bridged here"

                                  That's what people were asking me how to do.

                                  "Are all Bluesky users guilty by association?"

                                  By that logic, there should never be blocking of any server. Is that what you're calling for?

                                  My take is that any server which willingly hosts and verifies fascist death squads should be defederated. You're free to federate with such servers if you want to.

                                    @FediTips I feel more and more that your account is for advising people to use the Fediverse the way YOU like it.

                                    Or if I ask how to bridge your account to Bluesky, you will also post a thread about this to explain it to the people?

                                    How about communication with Threads? Can you explain it please? I'm a bit unsure about it.

                                    And "virtue signaling" means what it means, I'm not sure why this expression shouldn't be used when it's appropriate?

                                      Your account will only be bridged to Bluesky if you *follow* the bridgy account.

                                      If you have followed it in order to have your account bridged and have now changed your mind, you need to block it. If you have never followed it, blocking it is unnecessary.

                                      Incidentally, what you say isn't true about websites.

                                      My websites have been bridged to Bluesky by brid.gy without my knowledge or permission. They use my logos and everything, as if I'd signed up.

                                      This is shitty behaviour by brid.gy.

                                        They asked me for the advice I posted. Are you saying I shoudn't give people advice when they ask for it?

                                        "How about communication with Threads?"

                                        Meta's dangerous approach to moderation has been linked to several genocides (e.g. https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2021/dec/06/rohingya-sue-facebook-myanmar-genocide-us-uk-legal-action-social-media-violence ), so again I'd advise people to defederate it.

                                        I've been saying this for years.

                                          @FediTips Honestly? Yes, blocking servers is not something that should be done except with rare exceptions.

                                          "Blocking" Bluesky (or rather the bridge) is no different from those who block mastodon.social.

                                          And I'm still confused as to why people are so upset at the verification thing. Are people still confusing it with a seal of approval or something? If anything, it makes the account easier to block and prevents from blocking a parody account by mistake.
