Most Democrats are behaving as though they can run on centrist rhetoric, then compromise with the fascists; those few who actually want to move the country left are treated as punching bags to demonstrate how "reasonable" and "realistic" mainstream Democrats are. Congress already failed to impeach Trump twice. The Supreme Court is on his side.
