Speak truth to power, and especially to Donald Trump.(I am uncomfortable with how much this sounds like a campaign speech rather than just standing up for what is right - am I hearing something that isn't there?).#uspol

@APBBlue I had to 1) look up her name to convince a man that it was not "Peggy" and 2) show him a picture of the woman in question before he truly accepted what had occurred. I will admit to a tremendous bias against the president. But I am not making this stuff up, and I'm not jumping at shadows. This is what is happening. He's a bully and a terrible person and we need to say so.

I think that it's important to remember that in these days of . . . gestures vaguely at . . . everything . . . that there is historical precedent for having some hope that things will get better. On November 9, 1989:The fall of the Berlin Wall was a pivotal moment in history that symbolized the end of Cold War-era division and repression in Europe; it led directly to the reunification of Germany and inspired a wave of democratic movements across Eastern Europe. This event demonstrated the collective power of ordinary citizens and transformed the global order by breaking down the barriers—both physical and ideological—between East and West, encouraging greater cooperation, freedom, and openness for millions.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berlin_WallHowever , also, on November 9, 1938:Kristallnacht, or the Night of Broken Glass, was a pivotal, state-orchestrated anti-Jewish pogrom carried out across Nazi Germany on November 9–10, 1938, marking a decisive escalation in Nazi persecution of Jews from discrimination and exclusion to systemic, state-sanctioned violence. Over those two days, more than 1,000 synagogues were burned, around 7,500 Jewish businesses were vandalized, dozens of Jews were murdered, and about 30,000 men were arrested and sent to concentration camps, signaling the start of mass incarceration simply because of their faith. The dramatic destruction, carried out by Nazi paramilitary groups and supported by civilians, shattered any remaining illusions of Jewish safety in Germany, directly foreshadowed the Holocaust to come, and shocked the world with its scale and brutality.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KristallnachtSo - you know - we've got both historical precedents covered. #Kristallnacht #BerlinWall #USPol #TodayInHistory

RE: https://hachyderm.io/@mekkaokereke/115508555536902569Please read what Mekka wrote. I'm quoting rather than boosting so I can add the CW for folks who avoid U.S. politics. Sometimes when I quote, it doesn't connect right, so here is the topic:He pinpointed what (I think) a lot of people are missing about what has been happening in the U.S. By allowing big money in politics, we have given fossil fuel barons control over our energy policies. Naturally, they are against the competition that cleaner energy generation brings. They cannot abide that threat to their income. So they fund media to convince the populace that those technologies are "not there yet" or "just as bad, really." They throw money into discrediting global warming. They make sure that they highlight anything remotely bad that happens (normal growing pains of a new industry) that is related to solar, wind, anything else that they deem threatening to their market share. They stifle news about solutions that will prevent those issues from occurring again. And as a country, we fall for it. We don't just agree; some of us make it our identity to hang on to fossil fuels. The "rolling coal" ridiculousness is a fantastic example of that. And the way they grab a lot of folks and suck them into this is by using racism. They play to those prejudices in ways that are so effective that we are now lagging behind when we could have been leaders. As a country, we have decided we would rather be racist than throw our considerable weight into innovation and mastering new technologies. That's why Maga calls solar and wind energy "woke." It's the racism. They have deliberately worked to alter the meaning of "woke" to reduce its power and turn it into code that suits their purpose. It's hard for some white people to see the racism that is embedded into what's happening, but once you do, you cannot unsee it. If you don't already follow @mekkaokereke I recommend him as a great person to follow. #uspol

@SRLevine Yeah. And his podcast guests are beyond questionable. He's a political creature for sure. He wants to be president so bad. I'm hoping someone better (who has a real chance at getting the nomination) will emerge.I probably would hold my nose if it came to it, but I"d keep looking for ways to mitigate damage.

Lots of good news tonight with election results. My choices for school board won, which I'm ecstatic about. The person I really wanted to get a commissioner seat lost by a slim margin (seriously, it was fewer than 50 votes, I think). So that was dissappointing, but not unexpected. I really hope she will run again in the next commissioner race. I think she would be amazing. But yeah, good news from lots of elections across the country. And this has mainly gotten lost in the noise, but something happened in my state that I didn't expect - they don't have enough votes to call a special session and gerrymander the dickens out of us.Oh, they'll keep trying, but for now, they have had to give up. I love that for us. We have ONE Democrat in our entire federal delegation, and they want SO BADLY to take her seat. And for now, they have realized they don't have the votes to do it. I hope we can continue to hold strong on this. There are some good ads about it. Probably the one that is most effective is the one with a real regular-looking guy, slight drawl, who complains that if they combine the richest county in Kansas with the rural folks, then the rural folks will lose their voice because everything will go the rich folks' way. That's how we beat the constitutional amendment they were trying to pass previously - ads that pointed out the loss of privacy that could mean for everyone, and how government was trying to get in your personal business. They pivoted away from the classic rhetoric and made it about personal freedom and privacy, and that worked. As long as we can keep being smart about how we present the issues, we can keep winning here. I have to believe that. We can get back to a state that values rationality and taking care of our neighbors, rather than whatever Christofascist mess they've been trying to make us into.https://www.politico.com/news/2025/11/04/kansas-redistricting-push-trump-00636758#uspol

Things that I think are helping: There are restaurants in my town offering free meals to kids and reduced-price meals for adults. The food drive we contributed to on Sunday was a huge success - the pictures they posted showed a tremendous outpouring of support. And now at least people will get half of what they should be getting, rather than nothing, as a court ordered the funds to be released.I'm still having a lot of anxiety about people with food insecurity, but I feel like at least where I am, people are working together to try to help. That gives me hope.I just kind of freaked out when our local pantry said "We need food more than we need money right now." I have never seen them say that before. And when I went to their site to see what was most needed, they had a huge pop-up saying it was EVERYTHING. That made me so afraid for folks around here. But I think it will be a little better this week. We have several free meals provided by churches throughout the week already, and from what I saw at the food drive, there are a lot of folks stepping up to provide food for people who need it. I am not as afraid now that people will literally starve to death, or that children will miss important nutrients during their development that will affect them forever. Our election is Tuesday and I'm really hoping that my favorites win their spots on the school board and city commission. We don't have anything else on the ballot this time, no Representatives or Senators. Just local stuff, but that is vital and every vote matters. I hope my town will turn out and make some choices that will help the most people. We have (what I would consider) a problem with landlords in this town, and we also have commissioners who keep giving out sweet tax deals to businesses who leave as soon as those tax deals expire - we need some change here.#uspol

We just dropped off our donation for the local breadbasket. I may have gone overboard because we had to get our folding wagon out to get it from the car to the drop-off point. Cans and jars are heavy. And I just kept thinking of different scenarios, like people who need formula, or who have babies who are on baby food, or folks who need gluten-free stuff. So I kept adding stuff. We're blessed to be in a position where we can do this. It looked like others in my town were also doing a good job chipping in (there were a lot of donations when we went by). I also realize that I'm blessed that The Husband is with me on this. It would be a lot harder if he thought we needed to hoard our good fortune, or if he put limits on what we would do. But he was right with me today. And our boy pulled the wagon.I don't know if they're having the drive again next weekend, but I know our church is collecting food to take to the breadbasket, so if they don't have a collection point set up next week we can take it there. I'm working when the pantry is open so it's a big help to have someone else take it.It makes me so angry that the Republicans are just letting people (kids!) go hungry so they can have their way. I really do think there is some truth to the idea that Trump is hoping this will increase the chances of riots. He wants people to get violent so that he can use it as justification to send in troops. It breaks my heart to think of parents who can't feed their kids. It's horrific that our government is just fine with cutting off food support from American Citizens of any age. And because I live in the Heartland, this is another kick to the farmers while they are down - part of the way we provided food to people was the USDA bought things from farmers and those things went to food insecure people. That has ceased. If you go to the TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance Program) there is a notice on their website blaming Democrats for their shutdown. We need to vote these ghouls out as quickly as we can. #uspol
