How to block Bluesky from Mastodon:
-
"And I'm still confused as to why people are so upset at the verification thing."
They are murderers. Do you not feel any rage at all at innocent people being murdered in the street?
If they were verifying and hosting a serial killer would you be fine with that?
"it makes the account easier to block"
It is not about blocking the account, it's about preventing the account spreading its dangerous hate and lies. Most will not block it, and they may be radicalised by such accounts.
@FediTips Don't you confuse "being upset at ICE" and "being upset at ICE being verified"? Because there is a difference.
They're a governmental agency, if Bluesky accepts them (and we can debate whether they should or not, I'm fine with that debate) why should they not be verified?
I'm pretty sure no one on Bluesky will be radicalized by such an account. The prejudice against people using Bluesky are pretty insane (as insane as the prejudice of people using Bluesky against the Fediverse)

️@FediTips The funny and sad thing being that most people are very similar, but let's throw expletive at each other and block each other instead.

The reason fascists want platforming is because it works. Every time they get an audience, a certain percentage will believe their hate-filled lies and their following grows.
Fascists need to be deplatformed in every way and at every opportunity. They are not discussing things in good faith, they are spreading hatred against innocent people.

Don't you dare "both sides" this.
There is one particular side that is doing the kidnappings and killings right now. We all need to be fighting against it.

How to block Bluesky from Mastodon:
1. Go to the profile page of the account Bridgy Fed for Bluesky
2. Click ⋯
3. Click "Block Domain" to stop seeing Bluesky accounts
4. Click "Block" to prevent your own account being bridged to BlueskyYou may need to copy-paste Bridgy Fed for Bluesky into the search box on your server to make the profile appear.
If you can't find the account Bridgy Fed for Bluesky, your server is probably already blocking the Bluesky bridge.
@FediTips
This BSKY bridge is an opt in, you need to follow it and then it follows you back to bridge your posts. So blocking it is not really needed.
Btw. if the account already follows you, you can also remove it from your followers list. -

@FediTips
No. The US government arrived in mass on Bluesky months ago (and got blocked in mass right away), but only now there is an outcry because the accounts got a blue checkmark. I mean, seriously?And the US government arrived on Bluesky to "own the libs" or something like that.
Anyway, how are you deplatforming ICE by blocking the bridge? Could you explain?

@FediTips Bluesky users are doing the kidnapping and the killing? Wow... That's quite scary.
(sorry, I wasn't clear with "Most people" I meant: most users of both the Fediverse and Bluesky)
Honestly, take a deep breath, and think about what I'm telling you instead of reacting without really reading. I'm not trolling you, I'm trying to find a logic in blocking the bridge, and I don't find it.

Are you able to communicate with people without patronising them?
Your replies come across as troll-like, and if you keep replying in this fashion I'm going to assume this discussion isn't in good faith.

"and got blocked in mass right away"
The "most blocked accounts" lists on Bluesky are all blocked by only a minority of users. That means most people on Bluesky will be seeing these accounts and the hatred they post.
"but only now there is an outcry because the accounts got a blue checkmark"
No, this isn't true at all. All the Trump accounts were all verified at the time they arrrived, and there was an outcry at the time it happened. Bluesky emailed Fox News to welcome JD Vance.

"Anyway, how are you deplatforming ICE by blocking the bridge? Could you explain?"
Your reply was just about the ICE account and now you're pretending you were talking about the bridge in general?
Once again:
Deplatforming ICE stops them spreading bigoted lies to people's timelines. Bluesky should have deplatformed them, but chose to platform them instead.
Blocking the Bluesky bridge is because people want nothing to do with an organisation that welcomes Trump's lackeys and thugs.

Btw. if the account already follows you, you can also remove it from your followers list.1. I have had several people ask how they can opt out, they bridged a long time ago and didn't know how to opt out. The post above is trying to help them as well as those who want to stop seeing Bluesky.
2. The bridge is only opt in for Fedi accounts, it's not opt in for websites. Some of my websites have been bridged by brid.gy without my permission or knowledge.

@David @FediTips
It's not up to you or to anyone to find a logic in blocking it or not. A user may decide they dislike capital "E" and block any user with that letter in the name. Or profile pictures in BW. Or anybody from mastodon.social. And that's fine. Their feed is theirs to curate, in whatever way they see fit. Your or mine opinion on it is irrelevant. -
It's not sensitivity or "virtue signalling", it's genuine anger over what is being done to people. It is sincere concern for innocent human lives.
The entire reason I do my accounts and sites is because I am terrified of what is being done to vulnerable groups, and furious with those who are doing it.
If you disagree with this stance, you're free to unfollow me.
@FediTips
Where i disagree is that i think you are allowing your anger at a small group cause you to alienate a much larger group of people whom you probably have much more in common with then not in terms of ideology or goals.
I also think as with threads that it makes it harder for the average person to ever consider leaving a corporate social network when the alternatives might actively prevent them from being able to keep following people on the corporate networks. It causes more harm then it prevents, its better to block specific problematic accounts rather then blanket target an entire network because of the actions of a few powerful people who "own" those networks.
I dont think this is a disagreement worth unfollowing someone for, its just my personal opinion and i respect your right to your own opinions and views. -

Honestly i think its a useful PSA about blocking the bridges, even if i dont think its the best way, im sure there are a lot of folks who would rather go with a sort of zero tollerance policy and i totally respect that, its good to have such options. -

ok, but even if you block this account you still see bridges accounts from BSKY because the bridge is creating a user for each bridged account. It’s well described on brid.gy‘s Homepage.
So blocking the account helps to avoid your profile being bridged. Or: open the profile, select the … menu and choose „remove as follower“.Each site providing RSS can be bridged. This is done by a request from any Fediverse user. Not sure if you can avoid this at all besides not providing RSS.

Bridging an RSS feed that is described as an RSS feed is fine. That's what RSS Parrot does on the Fediverse, the icon is an RSS icon
and everyone can see what is going on.What bridgy is doing is taking the icon of the website and not using the word "rss" in the description. It looks like the website has joined Bluesky.

@FediTips Some Anglos find me patronizing when I disagree with them.
️ Are we having a discussion in good faith, though? I'm not so sure. You're not really answering any of my questions. And more often than not answering beside the point (I'm talking about Bluesky and you reply ICE, for example)

@FediTips all ok, just explaining.
Can you block an entire domain as a user?
-
@FediTips all ok, just explaining.
Can you block an entire domain as a user?
Yes, but it's not as powerful as an admin defederating the domain.
The user selects "block domain" on the profile of a user from that domain.
It hides all the domain's posts and accounts, and removes any connections you have with the domain (follows/followers).
-
@FediTips Does blocking the domain still work if someone you follow boosts a toot from it?
It should hide any posts from that domain, even if they're boosted.
