@QasimRashid This is a case where ideology is more important than being patriotic to your country

@Dwebster @QasimRashid A bill's effects are more than simply its text, which anyone with any sense knows.

@Dwebster @Huntn00 @remywhisker @QasimRashid "Impeach" can also mean "to call into question" or "to discredit." The irony of telling someone else to "learn the definition of words" when you haven't cared to do so yourself...

Let's be clear. Republicans are passing the deceptively named SAVE Act not because they can point to any form of systemic voter or Election fraud, but because it will disenfranchise tens of millions of women and minorities.

Since 1992, women have voted blue by 4 to 13 points. So rather than changing their policies to earn women's votes, they're changing the rules to prevent women's votes.

              That's not democracy. That's dictatorship. That's MAGA.

@QasimRashid If this doesn't prove to women that complying with patriarchy (in this case, by marrying and taking husbands' names) to avoid conflict and be granted limited privileges is a really bad plan, I don't know what will.

Sharing a name short-circuits so many difficulties in day to day life - from sharing bank or credit accounts to insurance to visitation at hospitals or even just dealing with paying utility bills.

This also applies to adopted children, orphaned, or step children just as much as women.

To pretend that it has no advantages to change is just as blind as to say it should be required to change.

As someone who has changed her name more than once - people should have the name they want.

This is designed to disenfranchise everyone who's not had a perfect white Christian male life.

@QasimRashid This proposal's purpose is brazenly to get Trump and his MAGAt party past the November election without having to cancel it outright.

Without it, Trump and the GOP face a near-guaranteed wipeout in November. While at most 1/3ed of the Senate changes hands (not enough to remove Trump after impeacement), another impeachment vote in the House will be probable along with a hornet's nest of investigations that will hang out much GOP dirty laundry to dry in public.

What will NOT happen in that case is a robust Epstein investigation as that one is bipartisan.

If every Republican Senator seat all lost it would be enough to remove him from office. Highly unlikely but not actually mathematically ruled out.

@Dwebster @QasimRashid Proof of US citizenship is ALREADY required, that's not what this bill does, this adds requirements that are specifically targeted towards women (matching LAST name on birth certificate/passport) which can take MONTHS to get processed and if you don't live in your birth state cost hundreds of dollars... especially if there's a rush on the services. Around 40 million people will be affected by this, this is nothing more than mass voter suppression.

Funny how two can do the same and mean something completely different. Here in Germany and much of Europe, showing your ID and proving you are a citizen is completely normal in the poll station.

But this only works because registration at the place of residence is mandatory, resulting in everybody having an ID. Voting here is SOOO easy because you automatically get a notice in your mail 6 weeks before the next election telling you the exact location and the date of the vote. Nobody tries to take away that right, nobody tries to intimidate voters, nobody tries to make voting harder. Quite the opposite, there are significantly more poll stations per capita than in the states, and you never have to wait for more than a few minutes to cast your vote. Name changes like when marrying is no problem at all. Why should it be?

Now, when the orange gangsters want to introduce the voting part of that system without implementing the registration part, it's very clear, they don't want to make voting easy. Only they can take a good system and use it to introduce more obstacles into the voting process. How disgusting these people are...

@QasimRashid Republicans are passing the SAVE (us) Act because they plan to use any form of systemic fraud to stay in power. For the starter they will disenfranchise tens of millions of women and minorities. The white nationalist poors wait in the line.

@QasimRashid As an American woman, I completely disagree. We are not stupid. We know how to obtain and retain important documents. A marriage certificate is all that's needed for the name change. When you register to vote, you also get a card. The only good reason not to require any identification is because someone wants to cheat.
