@Taskerland @Da_Gut @Printdevil There are some differences between the classic Twitter implementation and what Mastodon is appearing to do. Cosmetically, the original post appears first and then the quote is underneath it. More importantly, you can determine who can actually quote you (the 4.4 settings are available now and are Anyone, Followers, or Just Me).
@Taskerland @Da_Gut @Printdevil You'll also be able to remove the ability to quote individual posts, remove your post from another's quote, and get notified of quotes.

I assume there is some mechanic in Masto to just "block quote posts"
It seems a very mastodon thing to include?

I'm not sure about the app, but I think the web interface has already inserted this option into the Other Preferences menu. You can choose who you allow to quote your posts.

@icosacade @Printdevil @Taskerland @strangequark yep, it became available in 4.4 even though the quote functionality doesnโt fully become available until 4.5.

@Tim_Eagon That makes sense.. Very Fedi-ish approach

@Printdevil The problem is that it makes it really simple to 'dunk' on people... Being performatively rude and/or horrible to someone in front of your followers while also sending them after the dunkee. @Tim_Eagon
@Taskerland @Printdevil @Tim_Eagon This right here. I know that Twitter's quislings (pre-Musk) claimed that was a minority usage from their data, but it was **not** the minority of what was in my feed or what they were used for against me.
As soon as any of my instances update to 4.5 I immediately hard-disable quote posts for me. If I can't, I drop Mastodon.

@ZDL @Taskerland @Printdevil Here's the setting in the web app Preferences

@ZDL @Taskerland @Printdevil Here's the setting in the web app Preferences
@Tim_Eagon @Taskerland @Printdevil My other account has that setting apparently, but this one (v4.2.8) doesn't.
My options looked different from my other account though:

@ZDL @Taskerland @Printdevil Not sure how it's going to work in v4.2.8, but it seems pretty similar to the 4.4.5 version.

@Tim_Eagon @Taskerland @Printdevil There's no such setting in 4.2.8.

@ZDL @Taskerland @Printdevil oh, then you probably can't restrict it then unfortunately.
