I wonder if the lack of "local" servers could be an issue? My local Greens are centered in a single big town and are very active from there but I can't see them individually having a lot of traction in the wider Fedi; whereas if there was a local server along the lines of (possibly inactive, I'm not sure) epsom.social they could have more of a singular voice.

I see Zack does have some syndicated posts via a bot which is fine, but I also see a lot of other regional green parties and some multinationals are actually actively engaging here.

Perhaps starting at a local party level might push awareness up to the group level?

We don’t use the dead bird site any more. I’d love us to ditch Meta but I do understand the dilemma when local community pages are all on fb so that reach is irreplaceable

@Sarahw ah, thank you, that’s interesting. They must have decided against it (like 10,000s of others who joined and gave up). Maybe there should be a new mastodon drive one of these days. Some of the off-putting functionality issues have been addressed by now, though by no means all.

I feel as if I could devise a use case: here are the managed service providers (and cost), here is the potential reach, etc I could put a good case to them.

That said there's nothing stopping me actually doing that, so I'll get started on it this weekend then reach out to my local party.

It's such a shame when people don't stick with it.
I understand there isn't the reach of other social media but that doesn't mean the message doesn't get through.
People are just so accustomed to an algorithm it feels like they're speaking into a void here.

Yes, thank you! Learned that this morning! Brilliant. Others have also pointed me to @greenpartyni and @WestNorthantsGreens - i hadn’t realised. Will see what we can do locally (in #Eastbourne). And also what can be done to establish Mastodon more in #GreenParty as a whole. Though aware that v clearly not the first to come up with this idea.

The US Green Party has the same problem. They are all on fascist X, Meta and TikTok. It drives me nuts. This morning the LeftUnitySlate.org leader was slandered on corporate social media. They were not even aware that part of the problem is that corporate social media allows, and maybe even amplifies such content. Here it would be taken down by the volunteer administrators.

What to do?

I've emailed the Green Party about this directly, twice and Zack once. No response from either, which is not useful. Perhaps if you can put together an email with multiple signatories that would help (I would sign).
The Zack bot, while welcome, isn't all that useful for engagement.
