    @MishaVelthuis also make sure the URL doesn't contain empty spaces (at the end) in order for quote pasting to work. Also, you can't add a quote afterwards by editing a post, if that post didn't contain a quote already πŸ˜‰ And ofc also, some posts aren't allowed to be quoted due to privacy settings, but that's another topic.

    So, what's the other way/s to quote, if quote-pasting doesn't work? Generally: hit the share button and then choose quoting❞ instead of sharingπŸ”„.

    @MishaVelthuis while this doesn't work for replies, cause it will create an independent, new post (containing the quote), there's a work-around (at least in the mobile browser, don't know if in the app/s):

    1) normally reply where you want to reply

    2) immediately leave the edit window, by going πŸ”™ in your bowser and search for the post you want to quote

    3) now choose the option "quote" (❞) via the share button

    and, as a result, you'll have a reply with a quote βœ… πŸ˜‰

      Uh, just click on the profile or the video above and hit follow? Doesn't that work for you?
      @elperronegro@loops.video

      I'm using the Mastodon client and it really was that easy.

      @hikingdude @elperronegro@shmg.online @elperronegro@loops.video Hah, that does work!

      I went to the Loops page, and was looking for a Follow link there - which I couldn't find. Didn't think this through...

      Thanks!

        @MishaVelthuis and yes, Mastodon sometimes creates really nice previews for external links, that ALMOST look like a quote, like it did for your original post (which I screenshotted here). But:

        - in this preview you can't click username handles and hashtags

        - you can't start the video without leaving Mastodon

        - Mastodon (or in this case: Loops) also doesn't "count" that as quotes (which you could see in the Loops post), plus the creator won't get noticed.

          I think I just had THE fediverse moment:
          Scrolling through my timeline watching text posts, photos, a peertube video...A short video.

          "ah nice MTB video" , I thought. Until I saw the handle: someone@loops. Wait.. I see a loops here. This isn't just a video. This is a video on A DIFFERENT Service. And I can seamlessly interact with it.

          A new service just integrated seamlessly into my timeline. No "connect your account", no "extra app", no "extra login", no, it's just there

          @hikingdude but it was like this all the time: you can upload videos even to non-loops, non-peertube platforms, and still watch it here.

          This is what Internet was intended to be.

                  @xChaos sure, the difference to me is that loops integrates "all the possible content" into the fediverse, not just if someone decides to post a link.

                  Like this video. Sure I could have watched it somewhere else - but I wouldn't have known about it.

                            @fedops @coreysnipes @hikingdude @elperronegro@shmg.online @elperronegro@loops.video AFAICT the Loops Ui is built along the same lines as TikTok: optimized for making, posting and viewing short videos.

                                @fedops That's the question I keep coming back to, for myself. If everything federates, why bother with multiple accounts? (I tried pixelfed but didn't see an advantage for myself.) Maybe it's just a matter of what you're used to. Started with Instagram? Pixelfed. Started with TikTok? Loops. Started with Twitter? Masto. etc.

                                  @fedops @coreysnipes @hikingdude @elperronegro@shmg.online @elperronegro@loops.video AFAICT the Loops Ui is built along the same lines as TikTok: optimized for making, posting and viewing short videos.

                                  I don’t know what the server side looks like.

                                  @slothrop @coreysnipes @hikingdude @elperronegro@shmg.online @elperronegro@loops.video aha, that would be an explanation. Looking through a client like Pachli or Tusky it all appears exactly the same.

                                    Ah the one feature for pixelfed - for me - would be stories. But honestly not enough for me to use it a lot (even though I use Instagram and WhatsApp stories πŸ€”). But whoever likes it, go for it.

                                    Peertube is just optomized for video streaming in different resolutions, subtitles etc.

                                    But yes, I think a lot of people find themselves asking this question sooner or later.

                                      This is #fediverse

                                      @hikingdude Yeah.

                                      It's glorious.

                                      And even better, there's probably humans moderating your instance who are keeping nazis and assholes out.

                                        This is a great feature. I haven't seen anyone from Loops yet, but I like that I can follow/view anyone on the rest of the Fediverse. I think I'm personally following at least one account on Pixelfed, and another one on Piefed, and can follow people on Lemmy (though votes seem to be unsupported(?))

                                          @coreysnipes @fedops @slothrop @hikingdude @elperronegro@shmg.online @elperronegro@loops.video the way I see it, different Fediverse apps optimize the experience for their specific use cases. For example, Pixelfed optimizes for posting pictures (I believe Mastodon limits you to 4 pictures of a certain resolution per post and Pixelfed has higher limits), Lemmy optimizes for threaded discussion communities, etc. So even though you can consume and interact with a different app, the experience may be better on that app.
