      A popular choice!

      I could easily fill a book with folk tales on the Thirty Years' War alone...

        @juergen_hubert That does, in fact, seem like an excellent subject for a collection, and may be of interest to historians as well as folklorists.

          @ljwrites

          My favorite is where a bunch of villagers attempt to build a #Fallout -style Vault (well, a low-tech version) to wait out the war. But I haven't gotten around to translating it.

            Oh that does sound good.

            Now I am imagining the brainstorming session:

            "What if we ask the Venetians to help?"
            "What if we ask the kobolds?"
            "What if we all enroll in a Black School, and just stay for the shelter?"

              @androcat @ljwrites

              The dwarves and the Devil have also traditionally been hired for engineering projects.

              Hmmm... I think my idea of a German folklore-themed #ttrpg setting set in the aftermath of the Thirty Years' War has even more potential for dungeons than I had thought. I mean, it worked for #Earthdawn , didn't it?

                @juergen_hubert @androcat shelter vaults, ravaged castles, sleeping kings, dwarven homes, dark foreboding forests as arboreal dungeons--so many possibilities!

                  @ljwrites @juergen_hubert

                  Yeah, there are a lot of different flavors of underground domains available.

                  Come to think of it, this "there are different flavors of dungeons" idea is central to most of the Elder Scrolls games.

                    In extreme cases, there are entire underground landscapes!
