Apparently my Fedi promo video is giving error messages on YouTube (shocker).

So I just logged on YouTube Studio for the first time in months to see what's going on... and found some interesting comments.

I'm not caffeinated enough to deliver zingers but I hope my response was adequate.

On the upside, I also saw a few comments of people who set up new accounts here, so yay.

As for the unplayable problem: no clue. But this is why I LOVE #PeerTube and on my website I'm using the PeerTube embed

@_elena What did the even mean by you being the "villain (cause) of all this"? Given that, I seriously doubt they're going to be able to comprehend your reply

@_elena still, we've to keep communicating what "federation" means for digital platforms. Users are so used to silos/big tech, that it's hard for many of them to imagine such thing as interoperability.

        @davidlohner
The one thing that I just fail to get, is that federation needs to be explained to people, when it's a concept that pretty much everyone is familiar with.

Have a (mobile) phone? You're federating. Have an email address? You're federating. Have an internet connection? That's federated.

People understand that you don't have to be on the same (mobile) phone network, with the same email provider, the same ISP, in order to communicate with others. Many daily services work, regardless of the provider you're with, where you can pick and choose and leave, without anything changing.

So why is it so insanely difficult to apply this concept to #XMPP messaging or anything on the #Fediverse?

        It drives me crazy sometimes.

@aerion I think I set quite a few people off with the section in the film about Big Tech oligarchs. They sadly have a lot of fans, le sigh

That's something that eludes me too, this utter blindness, this inability to think for oneself…

Sometimes it feels like The Matrix is real, and I took the red pill…

And what's with the worshipping of billionaire assholes?? 🀯

@dermoth thank you! good to know it's playing for you: out of curiosity, which browser do you use and do you have adblock on?

It also works for me. I'm using Firefox with ublock origin, privacy badger, Sponsorblock. No clue why you have error messages.

@_elena #YouTube has become more and more problematic throwing error messages for all sorts of reasons. Most things i watch are there given the sheer amount and variety of content vs. Peertube.

I use #FreeTube and at times have to change #VPN connections in order to watch videos, at times some will only open in a browser.

It's definitely a hot mess. I wish #Peertube were a viable alternative for more than just #foss stuff but alas, it's not even close for most of what people watch/want.
