Question for anyone interested in such things. In traditional rpgs (I am thinking D&D might be a good example), do you prefer to say, "Your character needs to roll higher than a 11" or "Your character needs to roll a 12 or higher"???

They are both equivalent, just different phrasing.

@randomwizard@social.vivaldi.net The first wording requires a secondary inference to understand it's meaning. E.g., one had to add the thought "Higher than <X> means X is no good, I need X+1".

"Roll number or higher" is immediately actionable and does not require any inference. As a result, it is also less susceptible to misoperation. Some people will see the '11' and immediately think 'I need to hit 11' if they do not read the whole thing. Meanwhile, someone can see/hear the '12' and accidentally do the right thing.
