Ten years ago, if someone had told me that tech policy bloggers would be calling for ICE to be abolished, I would have thought it very unlikely.

"Abolish ICE" is an increasingly mainstream and extremely correct position.
@evacide I'm also partial to the musical techs doing anarchism:

@autkin ICE and DHS rely on tools built by the tech industry, an industry where immigrants are a significant and essential part of the labor force. This is very much in their lane.
@evacide sure, I mean it was my immature perspective back then

@autkin I appreciate the clarification.

@OliviaVespera To be clear, I am now and have always been a Mike Masnick fangirl. I am very impressed with the way that Techdirt has stepped up to meet this moment, especially when so many mainstream publications have not.
But it is interesting that wired magazine, which I never considered way back in the day to do the kind of reporting they’ve done quite a lot seem to be filling those empty shoes

@evacide
I want way more than impeachment. This is happening because feckless democrats let everything Trump and his minions did last time slide. Trump, Noem, and all the rest at the top need to be in prison - because they have broken our laws and violated our Constitution and because if we don't they (#GOP) will continue to be emboldened to continue to break our laws and violate our Constitution.
And honestly, it is past time to abolish and ban the #GOP. Other countries have banned political parties that were a threat to their existence and I believe the entire @GOP has clearly proven they are a threat to our country's existence.No complaints with that idea. But I would not stop at the GOP but the bank rollers of the American right wing and everything about it. We can talk about the older money that laid the foundation for this right word swing the Koch network. They have been in operation since the 1970s more or less immediately after the Powell memo was published.
I consider NRx to be the ideological progeny of everything that older American wealth promoted.

@evacide i think the issue must be cut more deep.
Us citizen must abolish all Insitution and rebuild them from the gound to prevent this to appen again.
If not it's just waiting this happen again (if you manage to prevent trump from becoming president for life, because seen from here with only 2 no king in a year, it's become more and more likely).
You were voicing the comments of a fascism historian recently Jason Stanley who emigrated to Canada with his wife and children because he saw the writing on the wall. He was recently interviewed by Amanpour and Company.
He remarked that there is no going back to before times. It’s up to all of us and the rest of the world to figure out where we have to be.

@GhostOnTheHalfShell @evacide Sadly now US citizen that think that everything will be good again after 2026 mid term will have to deal with a brutal return to reality, as the majority of the world see the US as the world have seen Russian since a long time (ans i a former russian), culprit that did not stop their governement, but it's worse for US as they also betrayed their core principle.

Yes, and I agree with your assessment. The US population may begin to understand how deep deeply things have changed.
But I will say that I’ve seen a number of people now at least within an independent progressive media saying there there’s no way we’re going back.
We need politicians to start saying this. I think somebody like the new mayor of New York or Bernie Sanders are in a position of communicating that reality.

@evacide they need to name each and every one of them on a public stage while stripping them of duty and patches!.
