#Pixelfed and #Piefed are not the same—and no, the similar names don’t make them cousins. They’re completely unrelated projects.

Pixelfed is for images. Think Instagram without Meta breathing down your neck.

Piefed is for communities. Think Reddit without the corporate overlords.

But here’s the beauty: both run on the #Fediverse, which means they actually talk to each other. I’ve posted from Pixelfed right into Piefed—something you’ll never see in the walled gardens.

@atomicpoet@atomicpoet.org How does Piefed compare to Lemmy and Kbin? Do they try to achieve the same goals even or am I comparing Mastodon to Friendica

@puppygirlhornypost2 Piefed is similar to Lemmy and Mbin (Kbin is no longer active). But it, in my opinion, has some big advantages over others.

Moderation tools on Piefed are much better.

Crossposting to Piefed from a microblogging service is consistent whereas with Lemmy it is spotty.

But most importantly, Piefed is building the ability to port communities from one Piefed server to another.

The downside is that there’s not as many clients for Piefed, but that’s swiftly changing. Blorp on iOS runs Piefed really well.

@liaizon@wake.st Amber (WoofGPT6.9) I am beyond impressed with Blorp. The whole thing is 26MB.
