@BoydStephenSmithJr @almino @TechConnectify I think this video is not monetized.

@almino @Janne_O While that might be true of this particular video, it is not true of the channel (or the secondary channel) in general. Also, just because a video isn't monetized that doesn't make it public domain.

If #PeerTube wants creators like Alec on it, it has to get a lot easier to publish mirrors on PeerTube. (Also, it should be easier to "monetize", but that's a harder problem, for several reasons.)

@TechConnectify Great video (and rant at the end!).

Panels are very cheap, but a decent charge controller and inverter isn't, and apparently inverters don't last forever - I've only had mine for a few years, so it's too early to tell how reliable they are.
Replacing inverters may be a "running cost" of the system if you have to use AC.

For that reason, I have been trying to find as many DC-powered products as possible, but it's quite hard to find non-IT appliances.
The only real DC kitchen devices you can get a fridges.
There are NO DC-powered cooking equipment.
The most powerful DC kettle I have found is 24V and 300W, which isn't great.
Everything else is just low power, small equipment.

Someone in the US is trying to make a battery-powered electric oven, so people can use them on 120V systems.
I bet it is phenomenally expensive!

@chewie @TechConnectify Also a reason why we should favour bigger solar installations, all the "middleware" electronics benefit greatly from scale.

Yes it doesn't produce CO2, but just why do you want nuclear? It makes no economic sense. It's a large, inflexible investment that requires constant use and future operating expenses are much higher than 0.

I've heard all the stuff you wrote before and some of it is true but it doesn't change the truth of what I wrote. I don't know why you are emotionally and ideologically invested with the nuclear steam engine but it is really annoying that you didn't even critically think about anything that I said.

And touching on a point pertaining who is lying:

The water boiler-steam engine that are common today aren't optimized for creating Plutonium yes. But all the infrastructure up until that point the fuel is put into pellets is dual use. The water boiler-steam engine is only the last component, which doesn't invalidate the point i made.

hot tran*sexual menace On the first two paragraph, I honestly think it’s the better option we have. It’s even better than renewables on a lot of points. For the same quantity of electricity, it create less pollution (even the chemical and radioactive pollution created are created in quantities that are very, very small, and that could be recycled – renewables waste are recyclables too, but in bigger quantities), less mining extraction, less space use (especially useful in Europe, I guess that USA have a lot of space they can use without issue), less storage needed, better lifespan, less grid rework needed, the fact that you only need few big plants make it easier to manage (it’s easier to coordinate 20 plants thant hundred and hundreds of solar and wind farms), etc.

There is downsides, but less than any other technology. It’s just the best we have now, and that’s the only reason why I want it.

About the military use, yeah, some of the rest could be dual use, but even if we stopped using nuclear power for electricity tomorrow, it would be rather naive to think that countries would stop using nuclear power for military purposes. It’s just that they would only use it for military purposes instead. I’m against military use too, but for me convincing coutries to stop military use is separated from the power use, because nothing says that they will stop both at the same time.

Not to mention the medical nuclear sector, which will obviously remain in use and will in any case require part of the civilian chain (including waste treatment) to be maintained. And the nuclear research will probably keep going too (it’s often linked to the medical use, and this research could be useful for treating waste that has already been produced, in addition to simply discovering other interesting uses. And researches about fusion of course).

14:56 is a point that gets understated quite a lot. I find that many people that oppose renewables have a strange libertarian ideals about the market and don't seem to get that electric cars would open them to more energy markets. To use their world view.

@almino @Janne_O I don't claim the video should be public domain, but I do claim that someone else publishing it on PeerTube could be a violation of any copyrights on the video.

Monetization affects both the impact of illicit mirroring and the incentives for creators to mirror (or migrate entirely) themselves.
