I joined the #fediverse back in the days (2018, with my own instance) because I wanted an alternative. A real alternative. With a fundamentally different approach. Decentralised. Even when it hurts. (federation and decentralisation is complicated!) And I think we are on the right track. What bothers me are the people that want the Fediverse to be 1:1 copycat of centralised services and as that isn't the case declare it to be a failed experiment. I'll stay here. It's better. Is all.

What I want is for the #Fediverse to grow. I strongly feel that centralized, commercial social media platforms are a dire threat to the long-term survival of human civilization, and they need to be replaced. And right now, the Fediverse seems like the best alternative.
That doesn't mean we have to copy the nonsense of the commercial systems, but we do need to think how we can grow and expand beyond our core demographics (i.e. 40-something tech-savy white people from Europe and North America).
