    No government has ever been “publicly owned and operated.”

    If that were true, I’d be getting quarterly dividends instead of tax bills.

      If it was selling something to someone outside, perhaps.
      As it is you are probably getting capital gains (it may be unevenly distributed). services some visible, some less so, and some insurance.

      For which you make a contribution to the expenses of the whole.

      Perhaps the public are not as good at running what they own as they might be, nor at the oversight of the operation?

        @Photo55 Governments sell things to entities outside the nation-state all the time. Often quite successfully too. And in fact, governments have a competitive advantage over other entities because they can go to war and put people in prison.
