John Oliver's Show covered what's happening with X/Twitter.

@hpod16 I can't comprehend why those who have been aware of the wide-ranging harm caused by Twitter (or Meta, or Spotify, etc.) are still using the platforms. There are options. The universe will not implode and your life will not stop if you cease giving your screen time and ad revenue to the Nazis and parasitic capitalists who are quite literally accelerating the downfall of society. It's bad enough that millions who don't know any better are still feeding the machines.
@ianto_jones @hpod16
Choice is exactly the problem. People don't "choose" to use X or Insta or Windows. It's the "de facto standard" you never have to think about.
Moving to ethical alternatives is a choice, that involves effort and taking responsibility for that choice. Nobody wants that. -
@hpod16
Is there anyone left there of good faith or will? If you're there to promote your products that doesn't count toward good will.I'd love @ThomHartmann to help me understand why he's not only still there, but telling his audience the #Xitter hadndles if his guests instead of promoting the #Fediverse

John Oliver's Show covered what's happening with X/Twitter. How it's algorithms are designed to push right-wing content, and how people don't just get away with, but get paid for inciting violence and hate speech. His advice? Leave X.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7ZG_xWYLzI@hpod16 we deserved a shout out

@hpod16 I really don't know. I do know that whilst Twitter was a huge part of my online life, what with Musk at the helm, there's no "for old times' sake" for me--much in the way that the United States, where I once lived, loved and worked, could never be "home" to me now. It's sad, but there it is.
@Eetschrijver @hpod16 yeah, I got into twitter by using text messages for it. I was proud of what it became. When that dude took over I ran like hell and started screaming that "they bought the community center and they are tearing it down like we lost a 1980s underdog comedy!"

and it’s probably the best thing that’s happened in a long time. -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7ZG_xWYLzI@hpod16 Why is a single platform for human collective consciousness important elon?
So painful to watch.
-
@hpod16 That seems so elementary. But it's probably difficult for the same reasons that quitting smoking is.
@Eetschrijver
Unless you have *work* that forces you to stay connected to things using Twitter for infodumps it shouldn't be.Journalists, I see being there for follows and auto-posts, then being active on other spaces.
Everyone else is ling past the GTFO stage of Twitter.

@Montaagge
The old community center is taken over by right-wing extremist. I stopped hanging out there over two years ago. Will actually have to look up when it was I deleted my account.Unless you feel comfortable hanging out with Nazis one should not be on the dead bird site anymore.

@hpod16@Hakuso
Even for professionals I can't think of any good reason to keep posting on the dead bird site. Unless Nazis are your target audience, in that case it is exactly the place where you need to be.
@Eetschrijver @hpod16 -
@hpod16 Anyone using X has made their choice. "Oh, you can't blame people for that, that's not nice, it's not their fault, etc."
Nonsense. Does it suck what happened to it? Yep. Is there Any excuse for still being there? Of course not. The nazis took over the bar; you can't drink there and pretend you're not in a nazi bar.

Not taking responsibility is probably key here.

@hpod16 video has not been made available in (at least) Oz. You'll need a VPN.
Why do people do that?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7ZG_xWYLzI@hpod16 or was the video a lesson in how to get rich by betraying your principles? Saw most of it. Fascinating that people would by the bullshit so easily.

I have long thought that Huxley's Soma from A Brave New World, in our world, would be the dopamine addiction to social media. I guess in some ways it is more useful than a simple chemical high because someone like Musk can dial it up situationally. -

@Eetschrijver @hpod16Frank Heijkamp “I need to be where the audience is!” they say, oblivious to the fact that the audience is on the Internet, and if they can be found on Twitter, they can be found elsewhere.
“But there’s friction elsewhere!” they cry, oblivious to the fact that friction is the force that moves people.
