So the juniors had AI code up all their stories for a sprint, but then did their own work without AI in another branch, blinded their senior peers to which branch was which, and had them rate the code. I know who won, by a lot.

Now I’m waiting to see what that lead says 🍿

  • Why are company blogs so universally terrible?

Why are company blogs so universally terrible? That stupid “card” interface, RSS feeds are hit or miss (and where they exist, only an “all posts” and not a feed per category, for example), and you can’t find shit.

Inevitably they “feature” some nonsense that seems either AI-generated or written by committee. Almost never do I see just actual *weblog content*: informal, interesting, insight into what someone is thinking or doing.

Did we collectively forget what was good about blogs?

  • So the president signed an EO that has some good things in it about nuclear power generation (mainly speeding research into lower-waste reactor designs).

Cue all the anti-nuclear trolls. But also, more frustratingly, all the folks that are railing against it just because The Asshole did it. That’s silliness. A shithead can do good things and make good decisions occasionally. Admitting this does not make you a supporter of the shithead.

  • Heard someone say that because CompSci degrees focus on theory and concepts rather than marketable skills, graduates enter the workforce and are frustrated because they have to learn on their own.

@squishymage42 exactly! The whole approach of college-style education is to teach fundamentals and create a person who has the base ability to effectively learn to practice within their chosen field. This is a good thing, even if it’s definitely not the only path.

It’s weird to think that path is broken because it’s not another path.

Maybe because I didn’t go the degree route, I’m missing something. But “oh no, you graduate and have to still learn things!” seems like such a weird take.

Vocational training exists, if we just want to learn specific skills. You go to college for something different than that.

But… that’s the point of a degree program? Learn foundations so you can self-teach skills or have better outcomes from skills training
