"This is the Spear of Selene all over again!"

"I was not responsible for the Spear of Selene!"

What seems like some ordinary crisis banter turns out to be foreshadowing for the central mystery of this season of DuckTales.

"Why didn't you tell him the truth?"
"You didn't tell your grandma we were going to a dangerous underwater city, did you?"
"I kinda sorta... didn't tell her anything?"
"Webby, that's irresponsible! She'll be worried sick! Call your grandma this instant, and tell her that you are spending the night at a friends house, okay?

Lying, it's the responsible thing to do."

A great lesson for the kids watching this show!

"Take an idea. Make it your own."

The "Glomgold Industries Employee Training Video" perfectly sets the tone for Flintheart Glomgold. In a series full of hammy villains, he is quite possibly the hammiest. His insane, over-the-top portrayal steals every scene he appears in.

While Glomgold in DuckTales (1987) was a dark mirror of Scrooge - what Scrooge might have become without his ethics and his family - Glomgold (2017) is a copycat of Scrooge - someone who tries to outdo him in every way and replace him just because of his personal vendetta. And this over-the-top approach to retaliating for every slight, real or imaginary, is what makes him so fun to watch.

    "The headless man-horse!

    ...that one feels self-explanatory."

This scene shows how the series embraces its own brand of craziness. It is over-the-top, and proud of it. Characters might initially startle at some new development, but then they just roll with it.

Also, who would have known that "Manny the Man-Horse" would become a recurring character at this stage?

"This is because some children made fun of you, isn't it?"
    "Nonsense! I'm no has-been. They're the has-beens. I am an am-now!"

It is clear that at this stage Scrooge has been in a state of fun - he has abstained from adventuring for some time, and while he still takes care of his business empire, he is bored and listless. It takes the unexpected arrival of family to get him out of this mood, and rekindle his love of adventuring.

Wendy: "What are your blood types? What's Donald really like? Who is the evil triplet?"
    Huey and Dewie: "Louie!"
    Louie: "Meh!"

Another way DuckTales (2017) distinguishes itself from DuckTales (1987) is that it gives each of the triplets very distinctive personality types. As they are the main viewpoint characters, this helps us get different perspectives on the world around them. And sibling squabbles are more interesting when they are rooted in contrasting personalities, too.

Also, Wendy is *scary* this time around.

"Remember: No tricks, no lies, no trouble!"
    "Yes, Uncle Donald!"
    "I wasn't talking to *you*!"

This scene is extremely important for setting the storytelling context for this show. From the start, it is made clear that Scrooge and Donald have a *history* with each other. And the triplets - as both newcomers to this world of craziness and as the most common viewpoint characters - spend much of the first season and parts of later seasons figuring this history out.

This is also one of the major storytelling differences between the 2017 version of DuckTales and the first incarnation. In 1987m tv shows rarely did extended storylines, and cartoons almost never. But in DuckTales 2017, both the characters and the status quo go through some real changes as more mysteries are unveiled.

I really like this portrayal of Donald Duck as a loving family father (adopted). I mean, he is still very recognizably Donald Duck, but it is always clear just how much he loves the triplets - even when they are testing his boundaries. He even tries to get a job as an accountant so that he can provide for the boys, which strongly contrasts with his overall slacker mentality - which is still there, but he has his priorities mostly straight. At this stage of the show he is still very overprotective, but he will gradually get over it.

And he certainly has hidden depths - in their very first on-screen interaction, he tricks Scrooge McDuck!

started playing Horizon Forbidden West 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌕
My current favorite when I want to play something relaxing. So lush. So beautiful. I am on my second playthrough, heading towards a certain oligarch's tomb - but I am in no rush.

My playstyle continues to be as someone who tries to snipe at things from a long distance, although I try not to overdo it because I don't want to run out of resources - Volatile Sludge isn't so common that it would allow me to be wasteful with it. I haven't really engaged with the expanded melee system - as far as I am concerned, if someone charges me in melee I want to get *away* from them.

I miss the tripwire mazes I could plant in the first game, but I can see why they toned it down. On the other hand, overriding machines is no longer as useful - for one thing you need to hunt a lot of resources to fix Corrupted Machine Overrides, and for another there are so many Apex machines around that finding normal machines to override becomes tricky.

Still, I am looking forward to how the third games play out - both in terms of story and in terms of mechanics.
