The Guardian had an article recently about bigotry on Steam and LGBT devs feeling negatively impacted by bad faith reviews.

I actually believed some of gamergate's critiques back in the day, but they destroyed their crediblity with their disgusting behavior.

VIDEO GAME FANS: “Why doesn’t the world see games as art?”Because art requires criticism. -
HOLY CRAP! -
HOLY CRAP!@atomicpoet@atomicpoet.org I was honestly quite surprised because Animal Crossing actually got a free resolution and framerate update independent of the paid Switch 2 edition features, so it sounded like they were listening to feedback, then they pull this.
The 60 fps mode was already in the game's code too. You're paying $5 to unlock something that was hidden in the game at launch and the worst up-scaling ever. No option to only have the 60 fps mode or native 4K30.
Makes me think of the PS5 Pro where they advertised not having to choose between resolution and performance modes anymore, but the PSR up-scaling made some games look worse than base PS5. -
HOLY CRAP!@atomicpoet@atomicpoet.org It also has bad FSR smoothing artifacts. The Switch version looks beter.

The worst thing about online learning is that everything has become a video.@miszeleq@mastodon.com.pl @Daojoan@mastodon.social @earthshine@masto.hackers.town Canva had the idea of archiving the Affinity suite forums and moving the community into Discord.
Which is why I'm sticking with v2 and not trusting v3. -

In my experience, mojeek can sometimes be good at showing personal sites but it can also show a lot of SEO spam that appears AI generated and there's a lot missing from its index. It's like rolling the dice whether it will have any useful results to a query and I ended up quitting it because it was so unreliable.
Kagi often has low quality results but what you're paying for is the the filtering tools which can help dial things in. -
The FPS games from the 90s that defined my youth:@atomicpoet@atomicpoet.org I don't think Bungie is bringing it back, I think Sony is stuffing something inside its husk.

@KitsuneVixi Shoving it into people’s faces often backfires.@atomicpoet@atomicpoet.org Star Wars Outlaws being a buggy Ubisoft game backfired. It was full of savefile breaking glitches at launch. I received a free copy after those bugs were fixed and still didnt want it just because I don't want anything ftom Ubisoft ever again.
It's hard to say but I think Concord might have been more successful if it wasn't on PC. Looked like a good console shooter to me and I nearly bought a PS5 for it even cos I'm starved of good FPS games. But the discourse was dominated by grumpy PC gamers who want hyper fast paced shooters, which I'm sure cut into potential PS5 version sales.
Haven't paid much attention to Highguard since I sold my xbox and it won't run in Proton, but I heard people who like it were asking for some more gamemodes and maps and they're starting to address that. IDK what all the outrage is about but I've heard some people point fingers at the PC gaming community for prefering to make outrage to ignoring a game they don't want, and it being mismarketed towards people who it wouldn't appeal to. -
We need to talk about Breath of the Wild clones on PC.@atomicpoet@atomicpoet.org The Ubislop account requirement ruibed Fenix Rising for me. I was really looking forward to that game but I noped out and took the disc to EB Games for $3 as I did not want to sign up to play a single player game.

Why are so many Nintendo fans worried about the growth of PC gaming handhelds@atomicpoet@atomicpoet.org They put games on PC too back in the 90s, I had Mario's Time Machine. Pokémon TCG Online released exclusively on PC in the DS era.
There were even some Nintendo games on 00s era Japanese phones.
Nintendo putting side games on mainstream hardware is nothing new. -
Why are so many Nintendo fans worried about the growth of PC gaming handhelds@atomicpoet@atomicpoet.org I don't think Nintendo was close to exiting the hardware market. A lot of tabloids were saying they might, but every Nintendo fan knew that would never happen.
Contrast to Xbox fans today expecting Xbox to pull out of the hardware market. -
I suspect that the Steam Deck is sold out because YouTubers and TikTok influencers just discovered it, and they're squawking all about it—and this has more to do with its unavailability than the RAM shortage.@atomicpoet@atomicpoet.org I remember a lot of people were excited for it, but I think people were anxious about proton compatibility, which has improved since.

Why are so many Nintendo fans worried about the growth of PC gaming handhelds@atomicpoet@atomicpoet.org Gamecube, Wii U and even Switch missed out on a lot of third party games too. But they still had a lot of fun games. One of my most memorable gaming experiences was Playing Nintendo Land's multiplayer games with friends. Nothing has ever beaten that.

Let me tell you what the consensus was on Gen 6 consoles upon release@atomicpoet@atomicpoet.org I don't think og xbox had forza, but it had project gotham racing. I think it's associated with Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive aswell.

These new Intel Lunar Lake chips are going to trigger lots of new mini-PCs and handheld PCs.@atomicpoet@atomicpoet.org Lunar Lake is from 2024, do you mean Panther Lake?
Or did they release new Lunar Lake SKUs? -

Playing Xbox 360 games recently and…God damn, so many games have terrible framerates.@atomicpoet@atomicpoet.org By not being fuss pots and just enjoying the games.

I often think about what would have happened if Microsoft didn't release the Xbox and instead just went the Valve route and built a PC for the living room.@atomicpoet@atomicpoet.org I use GoG, but it's missing features game devs want so it doesn't get many games.

I often think about what would have happened if Microsoft didn't release the Xbox and instead just went the Valve route and built a PC for the living room.@atomicpoet@atomicpoet.org Personally I'm happy using OBS for recording and Mango Game HUD. What Steam offers isn't particularly revolutionary.
