@iron_bug You’re right, I don't think I personally know anyone currently in Yekaterinburg. I looked at the ensemble. But our recent Aida had an Amneris from Moscow, Ramfis from Georgia, Sacerdotessa from Armenia, Amonasro from Greece, Messaggero from Mexico, Faraone from South Korea, Radamès and myself from the US, and the director from Israel. I bet we’re no more than three degrees of separation away from each other because of opera, especially with the Yekaterinburg Opera touring!

Please go to the opera! As for attire, wear whatever you like! Seriously, jeans and a t-shirt are perfectly fine. If you’re unsure, wear something that makes you feel festive but comfortable. (Depending on the work, you may be sitting for over 3 hours.) There seem to be far fewer ties these days, basically since trump made them look ridiculous. Depending on where you are seated, some houses can be chilly in winter, so maybe wear a jumper, cardigan or suit jacket you can take off. -
BOOST OR QUOTE THIS!@mirabilos Oh nonononono, that’s hacker code! I’ll show it to my husband hedoes that stuff.

BOOST OR QUOTE THIS!@mirabilos So cute! Our Suma kitty is very gentle and never even steps on people if she can help it. Swears like a sailor though. I’ll have to record it sometime.

BOOST OR QUOTE THIS!@iron_bug We never stop learning! Just today I had a coaching with a bass, he is helping me to shape my low notes. I want more colors to chose from, there’s some low stuff coming my way.
As for #/opera, that could be worse, I tried a google search for Aida … the first 2 pages are all about a cruise ship!
I’m in Germany, you might get different results, idk. Where are you based, if you don’t mind telling? Maybe we have common friends, the opera world is small! -

BOOST OR QUOTE THIS!@mirabilos I try to avoid inline tags, I use them sometime when I run out of space, usually when I post about a show with a big cast.

BOOST OR QUOTE THIS!@mirabilos Right! Luckily, the bosses I’m talking about are culture people, we don’t do numbers much!

BOOST OR QUOTE THIS!@hyc @futurebird I love finding out how people use Mastodon differently! Personally, I follow some broadcast accounts, but only if they post a reasonable low amount (like @opernmagazin ). I don’t follow broadcast accounts with lots of posts, and visit them when I feel like it (like @fesshole ). Then there are accounts that post once a day that I don’t want to miss (like @hashtaggames ) For those, I use the notification bell.

BOOST OR QUOTE THIS!@mirabilos It also dosen’t seem to take hashtags into account. Just tried it with my last post, and it basically gave me the sum of my followers plus the followers of the two accounts that boosted the post, and I dont think it checks if the boosting accounts and I share followers. Might still be useful, I’ll keep it bookmarked!

BOOST OR QUOTE THIS!@codeschubse Right, assuming getting a kick from numbers is somehow an inherent part of their personality. I’d like to believe that they would soon realise that meeting and interacting with real people enriches their lives more than numbers do. Anything I can say to convince people to leave the old socials is anecdotal, and I was hoping for a good anecdote from my post. I got it!

BOOST OR QUOTE THIS!@jesuisatire Oooooh, that’s a dangerous idea! (I think you misspelled Booo and block-count!)

-
BOOST OR QUOTE THIS!@virtuosew That’s a very good point! Sometimes, I get likes and boosts on posts that are years old. I guess theaters that want to publicise upcoming performances would have to post more in advance. The ability to edit posts has helped me a lot when there have been cast changes. I also quote my own posts when I want to add something to a performance I have already posted about.

BOOST OR QUOTE THIS!@withaveeay I’m a meanie! And I’m going to count the holes too!

BOOST OR QUOTE THIS!@jakmarcin Our Aida production is going to the Finnish National Opera in Helsinki, which is probably closer to where you are than to where I am, if you want to see it! (Highly recommended! It's a fantastic production. And I'm not just saying that because I was in it!)
-
BOOST OR QUOTE THIS!@wndxlori That makes sense in most of the world. However, this might limit the reach, particularly for opera in Europe, where there are so many opera houses! Opera fans travel a lot!

BOOST OR QUOTE THIS!@foobarsoft For posts about performances I usually add 'opera' and 'operaSinger' so people can filter me if they want the browser but not art. Then the work we’re performing, the composer, the city and if I have enough room the region. If I just blurt out a random though, I don’t tag them.
