We knew this was coming, but now the clock is running. From Privacy International:

"Yesterday the Trump Administration announced a proposed change in policy for travellers to the U.S. It applies to the powers of data collection by the Customs and Border Police (CBP)."

"If the proposed changes are adopted after the 60-day consultation, then millions of travellers to the U.S. will be forced to use a U.S. government mobile phone app, submit their social media from the last five years and email addresses used in the last ten years, including of family members. They’re also proposing the collection of DNA."

PI linked to and summarized a Federal Register entry describing the proposed requirements:

-All visitors must submit ‘their social media from the last 5 years’

-ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) applications will include ‘high value data fields’, ‘when feasible’
‘telephone numbers used in the last five years’
-‘email addresses used in the last ten years’
-‘family number telephone numbers (sic) used in the last five years’
-biometrics – face, fingerprint, DNA, and iris
-business telephone numbers used in the last five years
-business email addresses used in the last ten years.

Boycott Yankistan! It has always been an invasive empire of corporate and public data thieves. And since they have gone fully fascist, they have completely lost their minds.

All very good reasons to never fly into or over the US, until this fascist nonsense is history.

        @briankrebs

If the Trump regime makes up an email address or a phone number or whatever as an excuse to bar entry to someone, how can that person reasonably be expected to prove the contrary?

@briankrebs A LOT of things will have to change in the US if I'm to ever set my foot on that continent again.
At this point I'm not even sure the US will ever be able to win back the trust of many Europeans

True, it's very unlikely I'll ever set foot in the USA. I'll still visit Mexico and South America though, as it's great for bikepacking.

@briankrebs This will 100% tank 100% of the travel to the U.S. We need to impeach the fat orange fscist as fast as we can to prevent further damage. ANY U.S. house representative or senator also needs to be voted out in the midterms (if they are up for reelection) if they do not side with the will of the people to impeach. And anyone still in office needs to be censored for not voting to impeach.

@AAKL @briankrebs If the German football federation decides to either boycott the WC entirely or boycott matches in the US the rest of Europe will do the same. Mexico and Canada can handle the extra matches and tourists. FIFA can adjust quickly to cut the US out. The US matches will have low ranked teams playing in near empty stadiums.

@briankrebs I've been to Cuba, Vietnam and Lao, all certified authoritarian police states where a seemingly innocent question could be met by pinched lips, shaking head and fearful eyes.
Not one asked for anything more than my passport
So, thanks, but no thanks. Good luck with that economy. You'll need it.

If the Trump regime makes up an email address or a phone number or whatever as an excuse to bar entry to someone, how can that person reasonably be expected to prove the contrary?

@BLTpizza @briankrebs That's right. The doofus who made this deal doesn't care about the implications: they are not his cross to bear. But what is the criteria that will be used? Who will be banned from entry? Who will be punished? Based on what? Gender? Immigration? Opinion? Are visitors seriously considering handing over their DNA and entire family, email, and social media history for a decade to the people who just murdered another civilian in cold blood?

@briankrebs FIFA's Word Cup tournaments in the U.S. need to be boycotted or cancelled. This puts the world at the mercy of these thugs.

FIFA is a corrupt bunch anyways.
So the Worldcup should be boycotted for this alone.
