    @audreygwinter It's definitely not for me but they kind of did check their expectations, realized D&D wasn't meeting them, and made their own game to play that way.

    @kevin @audreygwinter @Da_Gut Cairn and other games based on Into the Odd doesn't use To Hit Rolls. All attacks hit (including the monsters'), so combat is very risky, even with how different damage and armor works in those games compared to something like D&D.

      @Tim_Eagon @audreygwinter @Da_Gut If I'm playing something without attack rolls, I at least want defense rolls for the players.

          @kevin @Tim_Eagon @Da_Gut I'm down with that. Defense rolls are just changing the direction of things. As a GM I'd be sad because I *like* rolling dice, but it still makes sense to me.

            @Tim_Eagon @kevin @Da_Gut I spoke regularly with Chris McDowall while he was originally developing Into the Odd, and I seem to recall saying he did it to drive home the danger, yeah.

              @audreygwinter @kevin @Tim_Eagon @Da_Gut oh, I'm experimenting with this stuff. Player rolls to attack (but not for damage), player rolls to defend, I don't roll and focus on describing and running the game. I love it in Blades and other FitD games, why not use it EVERYWHERE!

                @vdonnut @audreygwinter @Tim_Eagon @Da_Gut I do like GMing Blades but you're also not going blow-by-blow whittling down HP.

                  @kevin @audreygwinter @Tim_Eagon @Da_Gut I believe my aversion to treating NPCs like PCs is able to traverse cultures of play. Also then players won't be bored during enemy phase because there are a lot of decisions ahead

                    @Da_Gut They're very easy reads.

                      @vdonnut @kevin @audreygwinter @Da_Gut my aversion is because it's too much work! 3e D&D taught me that!
